clearly signaling his intentions for the final. At the end of the first round, Colomer (a three-time winner of the title), Freixa and Fujinami were eliminated. Fujinami had already secured fourth place, and a tie for fifth between Colomer and Freixa on 27 points meant a run-off, using only the second hazard as a decider. Another similar run-off was used to decide the starting order for the final; Lampkin and Raga had tied on 21 points, and obviously, neither wanted to go first. Cabestany had already ensured that he would be last of the three finalists, giving him the benefit of seeing how the others performed. Lampkin won the run-off, so Raga was forced to be the first to attempt the hazards. ® TOYOTA AMA [![Lliijllf2iP I = FINAL The riders had to move faster for the final, with only a one-minute time allowance per hazard. The three finalists attempted each of the hazards in turn, and Cabestany had lost one point as they arrived at the Lisbon Tourism hazard. Once again, this defeated Raga and Lampkin, while Cabestany took extra care as the crowd held its breath. He cleaned it, even allowing time to mop his brow halfway through, and the crowd cheered. Lampkin failed on the Michelin zone, and they all cleaned the Lisbon City hazard. The night got worse for Lampkin when he failed the next hazard, and as they approached the Monchique water hazard, Cabestany was leading by four points over Raga. This tricky hazard was a simulated rocky hillside with water flowing down it, and Cabestany had been the only rider not to lose points on it in the first round. Raga dabbed just once, but Lampkin fell downward while turning near the top, and landed heavily. The fall aggravated his injured ankle and, with a safe third place, he declined to go further. The pressure was then on Cabestany, as he couldn't afford to fail on the last hazard. He used all his skill and ability to climb the rocks with only one point lost, but received a time penalty of one point. His superb riding left him with a total of three marks and a well-deserved victory, much to the delight of the crowd. Cabestany's 20 championship points moved him up to a four-point lead ahead of Lampkin in the title chase. Freixa retained his third position but lost ground in the points. eN /f!;!!!.'& IlIIlacI_1 AMA Membership Required $35 Post Entry Only MillenniUM (PlUS $10 per class Loretta Lynn Fee) Gates Open: ......6 am Sign-Up Opens: ..6 am Practice: 8 am Race: 9 am Gate Fee: $1 0 adults $5 kids 6-12 FREE kids under 6 • - ~ ~ YOUTH AMATEUR: 51cc 4-6yr 51cc 4-6yr AMA Stock Class 1 51cc 4-6yr AMA Stock Class 2 65cc Stock 10-11 yr 65cc Modified 7-11yr 85cc Stock 7-11 yr 85cc Stock 12-13yr 85cc Modified 9-13yr 85cc Modified 14-15yr 105cc Super Mini 12-15yr 125cc Stock 12-15yr 125cc Modified 12-15yr 125ccA 125cc A1Pro Sport 125cc B Stock 125cc B Modified 25010pen A 25010pen A1Pro Sport 25010pen B Stock 25010pen B Modified Four Stroke 201-650cc Plus 25 VetA Plus 30 Vet B/C Plus 30 Senior Plus 40 Masters Plus 50 125cc C Stock 125cc C Modified 25010pen C WOMEN 80-105cc 12-15yr 105cc, 125cc & up Plvilheo AlIlntlco Usbon, Portugll Results: FebCUlry 1&, ZOOZ a/A: I.
