AMA/District 37 Enduro Series Round 1: UEA Not-So-Tough-E-Nuff Enduro Daniel Resumes Bv tenths off and I couldn't trials in, nothing. That kind of took the wind out of my sail. After that, I had to change everything; I had to adjust my riding from the first loop, where the mileage was spot on. In the second loop, I was always aware that I could be early; even if I thought I was on time, I'd slow down." The A-only third loop, a short but technically demanding 12-mile circuit, was designed to take points away from the A-class riders. Daniel dropped the least amount of points through the last loop, securing yet another win for the Torco/Z-Racingbacked KTM rider. eN KIT PALMER LUCERNE VALLEY, CA, JAN. 20 ick Daniel pretty much picked up where he left off at the opening round of the AMA/District 37 Enduro Series by racking up yet another overall victory, at the United Enduro Association's Not-So- Tuff-E-Nuff Enduro. The 2001 D-37 Enduro Series champion finished out the three-loop enduro a full point ahead of his nearest competitor, Kurt Hintz, the Open A-class winner, despite burning a check on the second loop. Daniel ended up dropping a total of six points to Hintz's seven. Third overall went to Honda-mounted Steve Hengeveld with an eight-point card, while Erik Matson and Christopher Blais rounded out the top five, going 10-11 on the day. The UEA club laid out a challenging - but still very fun - three-loop course. The first 35-mile loop featured very manageable' trails that were, for all intents and purposes, designed to test everyone's timekeeping skills. Most of the A-class riders did, in fact, zero the loop, but a few got caughu running a little early. The trail-difficulty factor raised a couple of notches for the second 37mile loop, but, again, the A riders had little problem negotiating the slightly more challenging terrain. However, timekeeping did prove to be a bit more taxing, especially for Daniel, who burned one check. "The mileages were real wacky the second loop," said Daniel. "Every time I came to a mileage sign, I was off - sometimes as much as twotenths off. I came to that check two- R 48 MARCH 6, 2002' eye • Cou.ar Buttes wcema Vanay, California Results: January za, zaaz (Round 11 O/A: I. Rick Doniel (KTM); 2. Kurt Hintz (Kow); 3. Casino Towns Motocross Series Round 1: Las Vegas Motor Speedway Davis Wins the Cup Bv DICK GOODWIN LAS VEGAS, NV, JAN. 26 alton Davis, racing in the combined Pee Wee contest at round one of the Casino Towns Motocross Series at the Las Vegas Motor Speed- D e n e _ :IS way, dominated the field to win both halves going away. The Polini-powered ace, comfortable with being near the front in aU of his races, was unbeatable on this day, as he snatched the holeshot from Pee Wee (4-6) hotshoes Caden Gibbons and Cole Nanney. Davis immediately stretched his lead while Shane Lant, another 7- to 8-year-old competitor, was working his way forward. No one would match Davis' speed as he continued to increase an already big lead. Nanney made a quick pass on Gibbons as the two Cobra riders battled in second and third. Davis flashed through the pipes to take race one, and Nanney claimed second (and first 4- to 6-year-old), ahead of Gibbons and Lant. Nanney led Braiden Hartzell, Davis and the pack as race two got under way. Dalton turned it up a notch, fighting his way into first place before lap one was over. Nanney settled into a solid second, while Lant fended off the rest of the pack. As the race progressed, it became clear that Davis was going to win big again, thereby locking up the overall Pee Wee (7-8) title, ahead of Lant. Nanney, finishing a strong second, secured first overall in Pee Wee (4-6) competition, while Gibbons made a late pass to grab second overall, topping KTM riders Jeffrey Wilson and Drake Wasden. Russell Walters was the first of the 125cc Beginners, but he was soon passed by James Henderson and Tyler Parcell. Out in front, Jessen was standing on it and pulling away. Aicher was in second until a hard charge by Derek Banta put him in the runner-up spot. Jessen won going away, while Henderson mounted a late push to forge his way into second, and first 125cc Beginner. Quarter-liter power was on display in the second half, as Jessen led fellow 250cc pilots Jeremy Tripp and Kenny Martin out into battle. Henderson soon got into the mix, as first 125cc Beginner. Aicher moved up when Henderson went down. Out at the point, Jessen had cranked up a hot pace, and only Tripp was able to keep him in sight. Jessen romped home in a cakewalk to claim the 250cc Beginner crown, besting Tripp and Aicher. Things were not so cut and dried in the 125cc Beginner division, however; when the dust had settled, Brandon Steranos had put together a fine second moto, and his 5-1 tally earned him the overall 125cc Beginner trophy. Eric Campbell led Henderson and Colby Hatch in the fmal results. eN IJIs Velas Motor Speedway W Velas. Hende Results: January Z&, zaoz (Round 1 of &1 50 STK BEG: 1. Nick Fronke (KTM); 2.
