Northwest Vintage Motocross Championship Series Round 6: Woodland Motocross Park Giertsen and Webster on the opening-lap parade. Giertsen steadily progressed to trail the lead duo of Clark and Landon, who were the top two in the Over 30 Expert class, to win the Over 40 Expert portion. Pugh finished fourth, which was good for an overall win in the Over 40 Intermediate class, ahead of Montesa-mounted Charlie Brown, the second-placed Over 40 Expert-class finisher, and Landberg, who finished second to Pugh overall in the Over 40 Intermediate portion. There was family rivalry afoot in the 125cc Evolution (1975-81) Amateur contest. Jeff Rose won the event over fellow Honda pilots Glen Rose and Brian Reveal. Yamaha-mounted Price and Husky rider Jim Sawtell split moto wins in the competitive Under 40 Evolution Expert class, but it was Sawtell - who has come so close to victory this season, though he has yet to put a string of consistent finishes together - who gamered suc- STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT WOODLAND, WA, FEB. 9 r('lZ-mounted Jim Row ravaged the ~competition in the combined 250cc/Open Expert contest at round six of the nine-round Northwest Vintage Motocross Championship Series at the Woodland Motocross Park. Row's win snapped a lengthy domination of the class by fellow CZ rider Chris Clark, who trailed Row in both motos. Row wasn't finished yet, though, as the rider from Portland, Oregon, also topped the Unlimited Expert class aboard his 1974 CZ400. Clark nabbed the holeshot at the unleashing of the first 250cc/Open Intermediate/Expert moto, followed by Row, Kawasaki rider Blake Landon and Bultaco jockey Roger Landberg. Clark yielded to both Rowand Landon on the first of six laps, and then trailed his fellow Oregonian to the finish after getting past Landon with one lap left. In moto two, Rowand Landon filled the first and second spots, with Landberg, Honda-mounted Joe Jeff Rose (32) leads Glen Rose (5791 in the 125cc Evolution (1975-811 Ama1eur class a1 round six of the Northwes1 Vintage Motocross Championship Series. Landon was Row's closest competition, finishing second, which was good for the overall 250cc Expert win, behind Open Expert winner Row but ahead of Casey, the second-place finisher in the 250cc class. Clark finished a disappointing fourth second-placed Open Expert - while landberg, the 250cc Intermediate-class overall winner, rounded out the top five. Clark's day was hardy a total loss, as the rider from Portland pounded the competition in the combined Over 30 intermediate/Expert contest, which ran adjoined with the Over 40 Intermediate and Expert classes. Clark and Landon, both Over 30 Expert riders, filled the first and second positions throughout the opening moto, while Landberg won the Over 40 portion, ahead of Pugh, Husky rider Keith Webster and Neil Giertsen. In moto two, Clark also ran ahead of Landon, Yamaha rider Darrell Kilgore, 46 MARCH 6, 2002' cue I cess. This was Sawtell's day; he took the win via 2-1 placings. Price (1-2) finished second overall, followed by Christopher James (3-3). Yamaha rider Charlie Martin, a three-class contestant on the day, took top honors in the combined intermediate class, finishing ahead of Maico rider J.R. Cunningham and Chris Walther. Yamaha rider Kurt Stevens was the cream of the crop in the Open Evolution Expert class, using 3-1 finishes to decimate the competition. Dennis Sweeten and Stevens split moto wins on the day, but Sweeten did not finish mote two and the overall went Stevens' way. Monty Price used consistent 2-2 placings to snare second overall, followed by Washington's Dirk Murphy. In the adjoined Intermediate class, Scott Howland continued his winning ways with a double-moto sweep to finish ahead of Maico rider Scott McAllister and Lyle Beach. • n e _ so (RIght) CZ rider Adam Saario (451 scored the overall win in the 25Oc:c Vintage Amateur class In Woodland, Washington. (Belowl Dan Cunha (51 was the dominant rider in the Over 40 Vintage class a1 Woodland Motocross Park. The CZ-mounted Oregonian won both motos. One of the day's largest classes was the Over 40 Amateur event, with 17 riders. CZ-mounted Dan Cunha led every lap of both motos and was by far the dominant rider in the field. In both motos, the CZ-mounted Oregonian had pressure from Washington's Randy Skiver, riding a Can-Am, but Cunha maintained his composure to the finish to take the top honors. Skiver (2-2) finished second overall, followed by Bultaco rider AI Anderberg (3-3), Jeff Shelton (4-4) and CZ pilot Lorin Smith (5-5). Honda riders Casey and Jeff Pugh went head to head in the combined Pre1970/125cc Expert/lntermediate contest, but it was Casey's day to shine. Casey headed the field of riders throughout most of both motos, although CZ rider Giertsen held the point position for two laps in moto two before relinquishing the lead to Casey's 125 on lap three. Pugh would also drop Giertsen back a spot in a battle of the tiddlers; Giertsen finished third, which was good for the Pre-1970 Expertclass win. In the 125cc Intermediate class, Honda rider Josh Warring walloped the competition for a 1-1 sweep, ahead of James Steel (2-2) and Can-Am rider Jeff Anderson (3-3). rill Woodland M8IIIcnIss P....
