IFMA FMX Series Round 13-14: Palace of A burn Hills "I got fourth in the end, but I am hoping to have a few new tricks next weekend that will put me on the podium." Renner had an amazing qualifier on Saturday that gave him the last run in the main. His run was very good - perhaps good enough to take the win - but the main was a different story. "I choked out there: Renner said after Saturday night. "It was the first time I qualified first, so it got to me a little. I messed up two or three tricks that I normally do well. It also messed up my rhythm, but I know what I need to do now, so I should be ready next time. But I was pretty happy with the end result. I just need to step it up next time." Also doing well this weekend was Jimmie McGuire, as he had a few trick combos that gave him a great qualifying spot. However, in the main, he wasn't able to step it up. McGuire was coming CN off back-to-back wins at Dallas. .....ce at Auburn Hills Auburn Hills, Michigan Results: Janusry 25-21, 2002 STORY AND PHOTOS BY RAYMOND GUNDY AUBURN HILLS, MI, JAN. 25-26 he IFMA FMX Series made its yearly visit to the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan, where, in front of a nearly sold-out crowd both nights, two winners emerged: PowerAde/Thor/DC Shoes rider Dustin Miller and BVH Honda/No Fear/Von Zipper rider Drake McElroy. Miller scored a 93.00 on Friday, and McElroy scored a 94.00 Saturday to capture their respective wins. Miller pulled a great run on Friday to take his second win of the series, while McElroy dominated the main event on Saturday night, as he watched Ronnie Renner and Jimmie McGuire try to knock him off. Defending champ Miller proved to everyone that he still has what it takes to pull off a perfectly smooth run and the overall win. "My weekend was perfect, because I got another win," Miller said. "This was my second win of this series; ( am sitting second in the overall points, so that is good. ( hope to keep doing good." After having two perfect weekends before the Auburn competition, McElroy had to settle for only one win this weekend. He had an up-and-down weekend, as a few things didn't go that well for him. "Saturday night was crazy and scary," he said. "Right before my heat, Jeff Doezter crashed hard. I hope he is okay. After that, I went out there and did the best I could, as the track was a little slick in spots. In the main, I did my run a little smoother, T 36 FEBRUARY 13, 2002' cue I and then in the heat, I came out with the victory. I think tonight was a little harder than normal to judge the riders." McElroy and Miller are sitting first and second, respectively, in overall points. Second place went to two different riders over the weekend, as McElroy, who suffered bike problems, fell short of the win on Friday night. "The weekend went pretty good," said McElroy. "I had to work on my bike forever the first night, so I only had two minutes of practice after I got the bike running right. I wasn't sure how the first night would go, so I rode and just had fun out there. In the end I got second, so I was happy." Yamaha/SoBe/Thor rider Trevor Vines was a crowd pleaser, as he pulled a smooth run that knocked Friday night's winner, Miller, off the hot seat. Vines finished his run with a jump that put the crowd on its feet, giving him a score of 93.5. "This weekend was good - there are a lot of tough riders out here," Vines said. "I came out of the weekend with 3-2, so I was pumped with it. The track was tight and small, so you really didn't have room to move. I did all my tricks great and rode smooth the whole week. I am just hoping to stay on the podium through the series. I think ( put a great show on for the crowd." This weekend, only three riders made the podium both nights, as Vines took third on Friday, with Miller holding on to third on Saturday; both had amazing runs. Miller, however, had a hard time in the qualifier on Saturday, forcing him to have to run the LCQ. n e _ s e "I had a problem in the qualifier the bike just wouldn't go: Miller said. "So I had to do the Last Chance to make it to the main. It was an okay night in the end" Finishing in fourth place on Friday and Saturday were Jesse Olson and Ronnie Renner. "Friday night was great and I did all my tricks big and smooth," Olson said. (Above) After finishing second Friday night, Drake McElroy came back to win Saturday night's competition.
