STORY AND PHOTOS By JEFF HAIN ANAHEIM, CA, JAN. 4 or the fourth year in a· row, Clear Channel Entertainment, the promoters of the AMA/EA Sports Supercross Series, hosted the SuperCrossover Challenge, a supercross race for professional athletes and celebrities from sports other than professional motocross. As with the previous three years, this year's event was also run on the day prior to the open- Like last year, Suzuki again presented the event. As the presenter of the race, Suzuki supplied all 24 participants with brand-new, stock 2002 RM125 motocross bikes to compete aboard. In 1999, Hollywood stuntman David Barrett was the winner of the inaugural event. The following year, don took the win with fellow watercraft rider Clay Cullen finishing third. In 2001, Sheldon, who had planned to defend his title, missed the race due to a broken ankle - the result of a snowcross snowmobile race. With Sheldon out, the race was wide open and seven-time Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath's former mechanic Randy Lawrence took the win. Sheldon, however, did return to the Super-Crossover Challenge. Other notable competitors who took part in this year's crossover event included mountain biker Brian Lopes, BMXer Robbie Miranda, snowboarder Tex Davenport and skateboarder Steve Caballero.
