Arena Springsteen's the Boss By BART NEWMAN FUNT, MI, DEC. 30 huck "The Ice King" Springsteen proved to be top dog yet again as the Professional Indoor Motorcycle Ice Race Series kicked off in Flint, Michigan, with the seven-time Ice Series champion laying down a perfect night. The Pro program consisted of 30 heat races, which pit each of the 16 racers head to head at least once before the afternoon's main event. Springsteen started the day off by winning the first heat race - the first of his five heat-race wins of the day. Springsteen's biggest challenge came in the 24th heat_ Pat Buchanan nabbed the holeshot and led the first lap before Springsteen pulled the patented bump-and-run on lap two, leading the pack home. Springsteen's five wins gave him the pole for the main event. Craig C w_ North Carolina Agricultural Center: Jon Boruff piloted his Jim's Motorcycle sales Hondas to wins In both the 125cc A and 250cc A classes on Saturday in Asheville, North Carolina - site of the fifth and sixth rounds of the Victory Sports Racing Indoor Motocross Winter Series. Pickett's toughest race came in heat two. A great race erupted between Professional Indoor Ice Race rookie Cory McDermitt and Buchanan, and the battle pushed both riders up to the rear fender of the fast-starting Pickett, who held on for the heat win. Buchanan occupied spot three on the front row with three wins and a pair of secoDds. Carrying momentum from last season's finale at Kalamazoo, Michigan, which he won, Buchanan was on the gas all afternoon. Mark Wyskiel owned the outside spot on the front row, topping the field three times and finishing second and third once each in the heat races. Brian Villella was a double winner, taking victories in the fourth lMA Arena: Eight-time Indoor ice-racing champion Chuck Springsteen wheelies to yet another win at the opening round of the Professional Indoor Motorcycle Ice Race Series In Flint, Michigan.
