South Youth Series were blessed with beautiful, sunny weather. This was the first mud run of the series, but it will probably not be the last. eN Too Much Fun/La Playa Cantamar Beach Series Round 4: Cantamar Beach BeerV\Teiler: EI HOlDbre de la Playa just kind of washed out in the corners, stuffed myself and fell over, got a little sandy. The track was a lot more difficult than usual to ride. I guess the rain thickened the sand up a little so it doesn't hold lines as well. It gets a little more whooped-out now; otherwise, it was a pretty fun track to ride." Beerweiler was first 250cc Pro and second overall. He was just happy to be riding at the beach. "Yeah, I started next to Rich - I think he cheated," Beerweiler smiled, "so he got the holeshot. I was following in third. Another buddy on a fourstroke just passed him. I think he made a little mistake. 1 passed him, too, and then I cruised and couldn't catch up with the first guy. I was kind of bummin'. Then I jumped a little too far, crashed, got up, and Rich snuck up on me... [but] I saved my second position here for the finish." "[I was] just trying to hang on for dear life," said Alvarez, the first 250cc Novice rider. "I could barely keep the bike straight. I was fortunate 1 got a decent start. Everybody fell in front of me. Mid-South Championship Youth Hare Scrambles Series Round 5: Memphis Motorcycle Club Middlebrook, Robinson, Miller Slide to Victory By JEFFREY KETCHUM Kawasaki-mounted Luke Robinson took the holeshot. Ryan Hamilton and SAOLSBORY,TN,DEC.2 1\/\ other Nature left the Memphis 1 Y!Motorcycle Club scrambling to make course changes after she dumped 10 inches of rain on the southwestern part of Tennessee. Hills became impassable and low areas became swamps. By Sunday morning, they had rerouted both the youth and adult courses, and the 47 riders who showed up for the fifth round of the Mid-South Championship Youth Series were treated to fun but slick trails. The Mini class ran on a large grass track that was more than a mile long. Steven Middlebrook wasted no time putting his Yamaha into the lead, with Zak McCord and Anthony Ferguson trailing behind. Middlebrook found the fast track with sweeping turns to his liking, as he continued to steadily pull away from the competition. He would, in fact, lead every lap of the race. McCord and Ferguson would likewise maintain their second and third positions. Austin Poynter, Alex Strange and Zebulon Stults swapped positions nearly every lap. At the checkered flag, Poynter had secured fourth and Strange had shaken free from Stults to take fifth. Adam Creasor were close behind. Drew Metelka held down fourth and Ryan Corrett was in fifth. By the third lap, Metelka had taken his Honda into third. Meanwhile, Kawasaki jockey Zachary Campbell had steadily worked his way toward the front, and by the fifth lap he had moved past Metelka into second. Metelka held third and Hamilton slid into fourth. The slick conditions were causing problems for the riders as the ruts grew deeper with each lap. Robinson A t round four of the Too Much Fun/La Playa Cantamar Beach Series, Sven Beerweiler garnered another win in the 250cc Pro class and Caesar Alvarez graduated with top honors in the 250cc Novice division. This was Beerweiler's first attempt at a championship and, as luck would have it, he prevailed. It was the third attempt at a championship for Alvarez, and the third time proved to be the charm for the Orange County, California, resident. In the first moto, Brent Gilliam the only 125cc Pro pilot - rode a paddle-equipped YZ250F to the overall win. "This 250 is fast out there," Gilliam said. "I got sandblasted by Rich [Truchinski], had fun, [my] start was good, [IJ ran into that other 250cc Pro into the first turn and kind of bumped him, got a second-place start, was following Rich around the track for a little while, getting sandblasted pretty good from him. He bobbled and let me by, [and it was] pretty much smooth sailing from there ... Twenty riders lined up for the Junior-class start, and Cody Miller charged to the front on his Suzuki, followed by Spencer Cook and Chaz Green. On the second lap, Green overtook Cook, but his stay in second was short-lived. The Kawasakimounted duo of Cook and Jake Young pushed Green back to fourth. Out front, Miller continued to build on his lead. With shouts of encouragement from his dad, Green refocused The Intermediate and Junior class- and first picked off Cook and then es competed on a 2.5-mile course that was a mix of woods and grass made a last-lap pass on Young. At the finish, it was Miller taking the win, tracks.
