mans and his hot Suzuki swooshed past him. Timmermans continued his fast·tracking all the way to the finish. Jenkins chased him in with second. Moto two finished with another Timmermans win. Things started out well for Joe Red in the Over 50 Amateur contest, as he took a wireto-wire moto win. Chuck Woody was second. In moto two, after leading for three laps, Red went down and wasn't able to continue. Ron Tuzinsky inherited the lead and carried on for the win, followed by a smoking Woody in second. The Novice contest developed into an interesting race between Eric Alloy and Gerry Kompleski. Alloy started with the lead, followed by a very fast Kompleski. On lap three, both racers went down; Alloy was up and running first. He looked good for the win, but Kompleski risked a pass on the very last lap and the win was his. He also went on to win moto two. Glen Helen Raceway Park Glen Helen Raceway Park: Seventy-fiveyear-old Chuck Mlnert placed fifth overall in the Over 50 Masters class at the final REM Saturday motocross event of the year in San Bernardino, California. CaMINO TO A By ROCKY HASH SAN BERNARDINO, CA, DEC. 22 Christmas came early for many members of Racing Enterprises Motorsports when promoter Frank Thompson gave away tons of quality merchandise in a show of appreciation to the riders who support the club, as their 14th season of racing weekly Saturday motocross in Southern California came to a close. All members of REM who cared to stop by the scoring tower at the end of the day received "presents" such as exhaust pipes. graphics kits, handlebars, boots, goggles. and many other things to put in their stockings. REM sent out a big "thank you" to all of its superb sponsors for their continued support, including FMF, No Fear, Renthal, Smith, N-Style, DSP, Acerbis, Pro-Valve, Superfeet, White Brothers and Motu!. As usual. the racing action on the track was tight. The starting line of the Over 40 Masters class could have been that of a National from a couple of decades past, as former National Champion Gary Jones battled it out all day with the likes of Warren Reid, Pete Murray and Ron Lawson. In the first moto, Jones blasted to the holeshot aboard his new White Brothers CRF450, with Murray and Lawson in tow. Murray followed Jones for three laps before making his move and taking over the point in the back canyon. Once out front, Murray was able to stretch out a fivesecond lead by the time the checkered flag came out. Jones was all alone in second, while Reid came from the back of the pack to edge out Lawson for third place. Jones again snared the holeshot in moto two. and immediately set a blistering pace. Murray had his RM250 up to third at the end of lap one, while Reid was in fifth. Murray pulled up on Jones, but Jones showed the nerves of a fanner National Champion, as he refused to make a mistake under heavy pressure. Though Murray badgered Jones for the entire race, he was unable to find a way around the big Honda, and eventually he settled for second place. Reid again rolled in for a solid third-place finish. On the day. the overall win went to Jones by virtue of his 2-1 finishes. Murray (1-2) was next best, while Reid (3-3) filled out the top three. In Over 50 Masters action, Multi-time Vet World Champion Alan Olson was simply unstoppable as he romped to both moto victories for the overall class win on the day. Tom White came in second with 2-2 rides aboard his White Brothers Y1250, and Ray Pisarski was third after posting a 4-3 tally. Motocross Action's Jody Weisel (7-4) was fourth, while 70-year-old former Grand Prix competitor Chuck "Feets" Minert raced to fifth overall after swapping his old BSA for a more modern Yamaha YZ426F and putting in 8·7 rides for the day. Both a large purse and double points attracted some very fast Pros just two days before Christmas, and the racing was very intense, to say the least. In the 125cc Pro heat race, McCormick absconded with the holeshot, followed by Todd Blanchard, Tyson Undeman and Tracy Johnson. That order stayed the same the entire race, with McCormick putting a large gap between himself and everyone else. In the 125cc Pro main, McConnick got out of the gate the fastest with the holeshot, followed by Johnson, Blanchard and Undeman. Everyone was pushing their hardest for a chunk of that extra-large purse, but by the halfway point McCormick and Johnson were still in the first two spots. When the checkers came out, McConnick came out with the win, beating Johnson by more than five seconds. Blanchard was a lonely third, and Undeman came out a disappointing fourth. In the 250cc Pro heat race, it was the National number-48 rider, McCormick, who once again got the holeshot, but Johnson sneaked in front of him just five feet later, and from there on, he never looked back. His only problem came just before the white-flag lap when McConnick passed him in the whoops. Luckily for Johnson, though, McCormick swung too wide on the next comer, allowing Johnson to get back in the lead - where he stayed the rest of the race. 2002 VI §upercross §eason §ale!
