As for the handling, suspension and brakes, all are unchanged, which is okay because we really didn't have too much to complain about in 2001. The TT's extruded-aluminum-beam perimeter frame offers plenty of rigidity, giving the Triumph a stable feel even at racetrack velocities. Ground clearance is not an issue. We would have liked to take the time to dial-in the front fork, which felt like it needed a few turns of preload in order to settle down at high speeds. As delivered, the TT is definitely set up for street cruising. The twin Nissin 310mm rotors up front do an admirable job of hauling the TT down from speed. Ergonomics are a mixed bag. Once again, for the street, it's not a problem, but the low-and-back feeling of the footpegs combined with a high handlebar are not ideal for the track. We know, we know, the TT isn't necessarily designed to be a track star, but with a more aggressive seating position you'd never know it, and we think that the bit of civility that would be sac- Perfonnance Increase aside, there's not much else to talk about with regard to the TT600. The only visual differences between the '02 and previous editions are the color-matched ram-air snouts on the fairing. We will be watching with great interest. SPRINT RS rificed in the process would be well worth it. Same goes for the styling, which doesn't pick up any points with fans of more race-oriented bodywork. We won't harp on it except to say this: the more street-oriented 600 crowd few more hardcore revisions, it Whereas the TT600 underwent minor revisions, there is big news about Triumph's half-faired Intercep- might just be a supersport contender. tor-hunter Sprint RS, which shares the same 955cc three-cylinder engine out there. And who knows, with a Now that Triumph has given the TT600 the heart of a lion, wouldn't it be nice to have an exterior treatment to match? Alas, these are items that Triumph can correct as the TT continues on in its path toward the mainstream in the 600cc class. At least now, with its added snap, we can . say they that Triumph is no longer "not quite there," but rather "right there." In a year, when the competition has also elected to go with minor changes to its existing 600 models, the revised TT600's engine work is well-timed, jumping the bike right to square one and making it a truly competitive alternative for @@@@Of?O@!?J1?O@O!J@ f1@@f1 WDGDfiUD@OD W@@@ TYPE: Liquid-cooled, DOHC inline four-cylinder DISPLACEMENT: 599cc BORE X STROKE: 68 x 41.3mm COMPRESSION RATIO: 12.5:1 CARB(JRETION: Multipoint sequential electronic fuel-injection with forced air induction IGNITION: Digital - inductive type - via electronic management system TRANSMISSION: Six-speed Cl(JTCH: Wet, multi-plate CHASSIS: Aluminum beam perimeter SWINGARM: Twin-sided, aluminum alloy WHEELS FRONT: Alloy three-spoke, 17 x 3.5in REAR: Alloy three-spoke, 17 x 5.5in TIRES FRONT: 120/70 ZR17 REAR: 180/55 ZR17 S(JSPENSION FRONT: 43mm forks with dual rate springs and adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping REAR: Monoshock with adjustable pre-load, compression and rebound damping BRAKES FRONT: Twin 3] Omm floating discs, four-piston calipers REAR: Single 220mm disc, single-piston caliper SEAT HEIGHT: 31.9in WHEELBASE: 54.9in RAKE/TRAil: 24.61/89.] mm F(JEl CAPACITY: 4.7 gal.
