CMC Golden State Series Round 1: Hollister Hills OHV Park STORV AND PHOTOS BV R.C. DOHAN HOlliSTER, CA, DEC. 16 pud Walters and his White Brothers-prepared Honda CRF450R mashed 'em flat in the 250cc Pro class with a pair of undisputed moto wins during the CMC Golden State Series opener held at Hollister Hills OHV Park. Rain prior to the event, combined with an unknown quantity of "new" sand added to the racecourse, brought out the beast in the Hollister Hills course. "We have a real motocross race here today," said event promoter Matt Lorenzo. "The dirt is two feet deep in most places, and the ruts are plentiful and in some cases so deep they could swallow up a bike and rider if he picks a bad line." Walters' day went according to plan. He pulled both 250cc Pro holeshots and stomped the field. "I have got to tell you the truth here," Walters said. "I got a couple of great starts and the bike did most of the work!" Walters pulled away seemingly effortlessly lap by lap in each moto until he had a commanding lead. "For the last year and a half, I did testing for HRA," Walters expounded, "so I knew this bike was going to be a winner. In fact, it's the best bike I have ever ridden. It's everything and more than the Yamaha 426 I have raced for the last three years." Walters went on to a pair of moto wins and the overall victory, topping Evan Laughridge, 125cc Pro-class winner Jeff Pestana, local ace 13111 Jurevich, and Matt McCrummen. National minicycle ace Mike Alessi showed up and was true to form, racing five different classes. Alessi was untouchable in the Mini ranks, posting a six-out-of-six-moto sweep en route to the 85cc (12-13), 85cc Open and Supermini-class victories. Later, "Mikey" hopped on the much bigger 125cc and scored two wins out of four motos in the 125cc Intermediate and 125cc Schoolboy classes, but wound up taking the runner-up spots in both classes. Taking the 125cc Intermediate class overall was the "Flea" (Adam Miller), via a 2-1 showing over Alessi (1-2) and Nick Davis (3-4), while Matt McCrummen aced the Schoolboy overall with a 1-2 finish in front of Alessi (3-1) and Davis (2-3). After a five-month lay-off due to a broken leg, Dustin Pipes returned to action on his Dean Dickinson-tuned KX80 and posted top honors in the 85cc (7- 11) class. Pipes kept the issue in doubt right down to the final jump, 80 OPEN: I. Mike Alessi (Han); 2. Jeff Alessi (Han): 3. Adam Kowaleztk: 4. Jake Osborne (Han); 5. Jacob Sanchez (Sw). 5/"'11'11: I.
