Northwest Vintage Motocross Championship Series Round 4: Woodland Motocross Park (Left) Despite the sloppy conditions, Bultaco Jockey Travis Anderberg was one of the Sill double-class winners at round four of the Northwest Vintage Motocross Championship Series, posting the 250cc and Open Amateur overall victories. (Right) Aboard his 1974 Honda CR250 Elsinore, Joe Casey scored overall wins in the 250cc and Over 30 Expert classes at Woodland Motocross Park. (Below) Oregon's Jim Row topped both Open/250cc Ellpert motos in Woodland, Washington. (4-3) finished second overall, ahead of Cuhna (3-4), AI Anderberg (5-5) and Bill Blumberg (9-6) in the DNFplagued race. eN Woodland Motocrass Par1l Woodland, Washingtlln Results: December 15, 2001 [Round 41 Vintage WMN: 1. Mary Radmacher (Yam). XR75: 1. Eric Hadley; 2. Jacob Hayes; 3. Derrick rg' Lorin Smith used a 3-2 tally to snare second overall, followed by Bryan Anderberg (2-4), John Cabral (4-3) and Mark Mittman (5-6). Travis narrowly escaped with the overall win in the Open Amateur class, though. He decimated the competition in the first moto, getting a bit of a break when series points leader Jon McLean got a poor start and then spent the rest of the moto forging forward. Travis, his brother Al Anderberg, and Suzuki TM 400mounted Clay Light finished ahead of McLean at moto's end. Moto two was looking good for a Travis Anderberg sweep, but the Bultaco rider fell and McLean took the moto win. Travis won overall (1-2), ahead of McLean (4-1), Al (2-3), Light (3-4) and Alfie Bensinger (5-5). CZ-mounted Oregonian Jim Row, Clark and Casey were by far the fastest riders in the Vintage portion of the program. Clark encountered mechanical problems after finishing third to Row and Casey in moto one. Rowand Casey had a superb battle in the second - and muddiest - 250cc/Open Expert moto. Row got the holeshot and then showered Casey with a constant roost to narrowly edge a drenched Casey in the moto. The two riders were contesting separate classes, however; Row picked up the Open-class win and Casey won the 250cc portion. In the 250cc Intermediate class, Bultaco jockey Roger Landberg and Yamaha rider J.R. Neumann split moto wins. Landberg easily won moto STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT WOODLAND, WA, DEC. 15 t was evident by the pouring rain that left the vintage motocross course at Woodland Motocross Park a quagmire that the long drought in the Northwest was over. Despite the incredibly messy conditions, nearly 200 riders were on hand for round four of the nine-round Northwest Championship Series. Finishers were few amid the rainy, blustery conditions, although six riders earned double-class wins overall, including CZ-mounted Kenny Brynn, who won the Open and Over 40 Vintage Intermediate classes; Bill Grubin, who won the Over 40 Vintage and Over 40 Evolution Amateur classes; Dan Cunningham, who won the Under 40 and Open Evolution Amateur classes; Charlie Martin, who won the 125cc and 250cc Evolution Intermediate classes; and Oregon's Joe Casey, who clobbered the competi'tion in the 250cc and Over 30 Expert classes, snapping Chris Clark's threerace win streak in the Over 30 class. Among the most consistent riders thus far in the series is Travis Anderberg. The 1974 Bultaco 250cc Pursang rider made the lengthy trek from eastern Washington and sloshed his way to a pair of overall wins in the 250cc and Open Amateur classes. Anderberg hammered the competition in the 250cc class and, with his 1-1 sweep, posted his first of two overall wins on the day. CZ rider I 32 JANUARY 16, 2002' cue I e n e _ s one, ahead of Neumann and Andrew McKeag, but in moto two Landberg's chances of an overall win slipped from his grasp when, holding the top spot in the class behind Rowand Casey, his 1974 Pursang sputtered to a halt. This allowed Neumann to nab the lead - one that he'd maintain to the finish for the overall win. Brynn sloshed to wins in the adjoined Open Intermediate class to cap off his twoclass domination. Monty Price and Kurt Stevens have spent the entire series thus far in close quarters in the Open Evolution Expert class, and this day was much the same. It was Stevens' turn to shine, though, as the Yamaha YZ465mounted former 'SOs Pro won both motos. Price finished a close second to Stevens in both motos aboard his trick Yamaha 500cc thumper. Yamaha rider Scott Howland trailed the Expert duo to bag the Intermediateclass win. Honda-mounted Grubin was nearly unbeatable in the muddy conditions, losing only his final moto of the day in his two-class quest. Grubin dominated both Over 40 Evolution Amateur motos, leading Dave Eppig to the finish both times. Yamaha rider Glen Rose (3-3) netted third overall. Grubin's Over 40 Vintage win was much tougher; Grubin won the first moto in the day's largest class after early leader Dan Cuhna fell and Grubin held the point position to the finish. Bultaco rider Bryan Anderberg posted a win in moto two, however. Bryan held off Grubin, who overcame a poor start to reel in the Bultaco jockey, but Bryan stayed upright in the eight inches of slop to score a win. However, Bryan did not finish moto one, and Grubin's 1-2 tally earned the overall win. Lorin Smith Walther; 4. Travis Beich; 5. Brendan Blair. PRE-1970 AM: 1. Thai Anderson (Hod); 2. Ed Locke (BSA).
