Anthony Cerrati got the holeshot in the qualifier, but before lap one was over Blood and Johnson had both gotten around him and were dicing with each other. Just before halfway, the lone Pro, Johnson, got around Blood and slowly pulled away until the checkers, with Richard Page taking third, behind Blood. In the main, Blood took the holeshot, followed by Johnson and Cerrati. On the next lap, Johnson flew by Blood to take over the lead. Daniel Hamilton also moved up a spot, taking advantage of a nasty wreck by Cerrati just before the new massive triple, putting Hamilton in third until Page got by him later in the race. When the checkered flag came out, Johnson took the win, followed by Blood (who took the Intermediate-class win), Hamilton and Page. In Over The Hill action, it was all David Taxel. He handily won the qualifier, and then, in the main, he got out into the lead right off the bat and never looked back. Taxel took the win, followed by Phil Davis (who took the Over The Hill Amateur-class win), Mike Long and Brian Hall. In the 50cc Open and 50cc (7-9) classes, Cobra-mounted Brad Frace took home the biggest trophies after he totaily blew away the competition. In the 50cc (7-9) class, Frace won his qualifier, and then, in the main, he took the lead in the first corner, but with Thomas Steward and Cobra tamer Brody Thorn breathing down his neck. He finally pulled free and took the win, with Steward second and Thom third. Frace did similar damage in the 50cc Open class, winning both his qualifying heat and the main to make it a perfect four for four 50cc-c1ass wins. Some really good action was seen in the Four-Stroke class. Gavin Washburn, Curtis Wharton and Rick North were really doing battle. In their qualifying heat, Washburn came out with the win, narrowly edging Wharton. The main was quite a different story, though, as Wharton and Washburn were constantly battling the entire race, leaving North far behind. Washburn had heid a slim lead the entire race until, on the white-flag lap, just two corners from the finish line, Wharton tried a block-pass. It didn't stick, though, and the two raced side by side over the popular Demarinj over-and·under jump, where Wharton cut to the inside once again and the two banged bars trying to get to the finish line first. However, Washburn stalled his CR450F and let Wharton and North by. Washburn still finished third before anyone else could get by. one, the 250cc Yamaha rider got the holeshot, but he couldn't hold on to the lead, as two of the 125cc riders pushed him back to third and kept him there. Nick Miller, aboard a Yamaha, and Kevin Lickteig, on a KTM, crossed the checkers in first and second, with YZ pilot Kyle Miller, Honda pilot Jeff Dean and Kawasaki pilot Vincent Myers coming in behind Malicott to finish third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Notice that all but one manufacturer was represented in the top five. Moto two was exciting, as Dean put his Honda out in front early, with Lickteig and Malicott battling behind him. Lickteig made a couple of mistakes and dropped back behind Miller, who was right behind Malicott. On the white-flag lap, Dean looked as if he had it won, but then he went down on the back side of a small jump. As he got back up to get going again, Malicott came over the jump and nailed him. Dean survived but forfeited the win. Lickteig took advantage of the confusion and moved into first, followed by Malicott, Yamaha-mounted Paul Bacon, Myers, Miller and Honda rider Scott Burney. In the Over 30 class, it was all Dennis Daft on his Yamaha. Daft absconded with the holeshot in both motos and left KTM jockey David Cain to stake his claim on second. Another YZ pilot, James Laird, rounded out the top three. Results 50 (4·6): I. (.J. Collins (Pol): 2. Cote GiIlilllnd (Yam). 65 (6·8): 1. Rllndy Reeves (Kaw); 2. Connor Berg (KTM); 3. Dubach took the holeshot in mota one, aboard his Alan Olson-tuned White Brothers Yamaha YZ426F. Cliff Cook had his shiny new Honda CR450F running second, while Barnett/Factory R&D's Craig Davis held third place. At the end of lap one, Motocross Action's Willy Musgrave was fourth on another CR450F, while Steve Mertens had his factory Husqvarna CR125 buzzing in fifth. On lap three, there was quite a shake-up in the back canyon, as Dubach went in the leader and came out in fifth place. Cook took advantage of the opportunity, and he now held the point. point of the race, Dubach had resumed his position in the point, and he was continuing to charge forward. Musgrave was putting in a strong ride, and when the white flag came out, he was all the way up to second place after displacing both Davis and Cook. At the checkers, it was Dubach with the win, Musgrave taking second, and Cook coming in third. Davis was fourth, and Paul Kellen filled out the top five. It was Honda red out in front in moto two, as Cook took the holeshot, with Musgrave in tow. Dubach was third, Davis fourth and Kellen fifth. Cook led the first lap, but that would be it, as Dubach slid by on lap two and took over the lead. Once out front, Dubach began to stretch out a giant lead. Musgrave was putting in another fine ride, and he went around Cook just before halfway and took over second place. Even with a comfortable lead, Dubach was not letting up, and he continued to charge forward brilliantly, putting on quite a show for the spectators. When the checkered flag came out at the end of the 20minute race, Dubach was 20 seconds in front. Musgrave finished up in a well-deserved second place, while Davis made a late pass on Cook for third. On the day, Dubach took home the lion's share of the purse with his 1-1 showing. Musgrave came in second after posting a solid 2-2 tally, while Davis took home third with his 4-3 rides. Cook (3-4) was fourth overall, and Kellen (5-5) filled out the top five positions. Davis was in second, though he was feeling Results Glen Helen Raceway Park Dubach Dazzling at REM Saturday MX By ROCKY HASH pressure from Musgrave. Dubach was hanging it out in grand fashion as he blitzed past riders with style and skill. At the halfway mark of the contest, Mertens went down hard after losing his front end on a tricky off-camber uphill corner, and he retired for the day. By the halfway Results 80 BEG: 1.
