By lap six, Baumgart had faded to sixth, behind Christopher Allender and Ashley Overbay. With time running out, Baumgart mounted a charge and regained fourth place. As the checkered flag fell, it was Jannings in first, Schoettmer second, Kourtney Allender third, with Baumgart and Overbay rounding out the top five. Most riders agreed it was a challenging course of uphills and downhills that tested their skill and stamina. The Intermediate class got off to a good start, with Dalton Parrish taking his Kawasaki to the front. KTMmounted Tyler Asbell trailed in second, with Kody Hardin in third. As the riders made their way along the 2 1/2-mile course, they wound along rocky ravines and wooded trails that swept through pine .trees. By lap three, Hardin had moved into second, dropping Asbell to third. Asbell didn't waste any time regaining second place, however, and Kody Hamer pushed his Kawasaki into third. Parrish, Asbell and Hamer would maintain their positions and secure the top three places. Meanwhile, Hondamounted Drew Metelka and Justin Conners had steadily worked their way toward the front, and they crossed the finish line to round out the top five. "The course was awesome," Metelka said. "I worked my way through the lappers and just tried to fly down the straightaways. " The Junior class promised exciting action, and it delivered. Christopher O'Banion jumped out to an early lead, with Sarge's CyclejThor/Klotz/ Smith/Tag-sponsored Cody Miller settling his Suzuki into second. Nathan Sullivan was in third, with Cody Parrish and Broc Sims trailing close behind. By lap two, Sims had taken his Suzuki into third, and he continued to push O'Banion and Miller for the next two laps. Midway through the race, O'Banion came in with a flat tire and decided to call it a day. Sims had gotten around Miller, and with O'Banion out, the lead was his. The Suzuki-mounted duo of Sims and Miller continued to put distance on the rest of the field, and they eventually finished first and second. Parrish and Sullivan crossed the finish line next, and Matt Zeiler rounded out the top five on his Honda. The Mid-South Youth Series is enjoying great success in its first season, and much of the credit must go to the parents who bring their kids and offer their help and support. The Lynnville Dirt Riders worked hard to put this event together, and did a great job. eN • ........ _ ~I~ s __ .. -. Mail to: Circulation Dept.
