Rapo normally rides four classes, so it could be said he was taking it easy. Speaking of the 250cc Novice class, there was some pretty good talent out there. Morgan Crawford came out from his private track in Sanger and showed the boys how it's done. He got plenty of pressure, though, from Williams and John McCracken. Williams was riding his Yamaha well and McCracken was his usual aggressive self. Kyle Jones was another rider racing both 125s and 250s; he finished fourth. It was a day that just goes to show how dedicated motocross riders really are. While any "normal" person would have been home by the fire, these guys and gals were out in the cold, giving it all they had. Hats off to them. eN Hanford Fairgrounds Hanford, California Results: November 18, 2001 [Round 41 50 FIT: 1. Joseph Valenzuela; 2. Hunter Claw. 50 (0·6): 1. Michael Maze (KTM); 2. D.J. Club MXJCedar Raceway Fall Motocross Series Round 6: Las Vegas Motor Speedway Howard, Krause Pound the Pee Wees BY DICK GOODWIN LAS VEGAS, NV, NOV. 17 acing in the 50cc Beginner classes got hot as Club MX cranked out the last race in its six-race series with Cedar Raceway at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on November 17. The two class champions, 50cc (7 -8) star Cody Howard and 50cc (4-6) ace Tommy Krause went at each other all day long, with 50cc (7-8) hotshoe Shane Lant thrown in to keep them honest. Howard blasted off the gate to lead Krause and Lant as moto one fired up. Krause made a quick pass, then Howard got him back, and then Krause returned the favor. Lap one was all pass and repass, as the little guys were putting on one of the best motos of the day. Lant was solidly in third, as Jessee Brown and Alex Spendlove were trying to chase down fourth-placed Drake Wasden. Howard and Krause kept it going all race long, with Howard grabbing a narrow win. Lant stormed home in third. The tables were turned in moto two, as Krause grabbed the holeshot and Howard passed him straight away. Unlike in the first moto, Krause had no answer for him, and Howard began to build a lead. Lant came up R 64 JANUARY 9, 2002' c: U c: I e fast to challenge Krause for second. Howard eased away from the field, while Krause and Lant stayed close and nasty for the rest of the race. Howard romped to win number two, and the overall Pee Wee Stock (7-8) crown. Krause, in a very impressive ride, just edged Lant for second, and first overall Pee Wee Stock (4-6) rider. Lant's close third made him second overall Pee Wee (7-8) rider over Brown, while Wasden, Spendlove and Cody Rogers followed Krause among the 4- to 6-year-olds. The Vets were also banging bars at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Ron Bucceri led the Over 30 Beginners as the combined Vet field shot off the line. Michael Ditto and David Schultz were close behind, trying to reel him in. Ditto shifted up and hammered on Bucceri as the two leaders opened up some daylight. Ditto made a pass on the white-flag lap to take the first heat win. Schultz followed Bucceri through the pipes. Flushed with success, Ditto stole the Over 30 Beginner lead from Schultz as the second half got under way. Bucceri got in the mix, fighting his way through to second. As the race progressed, Ditto took the bull by the horns and romped home with n e _ s Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Toe Westbay was victorious in the 250Cc Novice class at the final race of the Club MXlCedar Raceway Fall Motocross Series in Las Vegas. the victory that would ensure him the overall Over 30 Beginner trophy. AMA Mid-South Championship Winter Hare Scrambles Series Round 5: Memphis Motorcycle Club Gibson on the Gas BY DEBBIE ALLEN SAULSBURY,TN,DEC.2 fter 10 inches of rain, the Memphis Motorcycle Club scrambled to reclaim most of its existing trail so the Mid South Championship Winter Hare Scrambles Series could proceed as scheduled. They cut nearly a third A of the track because it was too muddy for the 380 riders who attended the Pirelii Tire/Parts Unlimited/Moose/ White Brothers-sponsored fifth round. Come race day, the sun was shining while the riders sloshed through the mud and scrambled on the trail, with Dustin Gibson, the 250cc/Open A winner, as their leader.
