County Line MX: Riding for track time only and not officially scored, Ricky Palmer was the fastest rider in the Vet class at round four of the KaceTek Southeast Motocross Series in Fountain, Florida. Hartzog held the point in race two until a spectacular crash over a double in the stadium area sent him to the pits for a DNF. Collins and Patrick diced for the win, with Collins coming out on top. Key and Peevy were third and fourth. YZ250-mounted Phil Sanders pulled a strong holeshot in the first Over 40 mota, followed by Bob Pannell and Bruce Allen. Sanders amassed a nice lead during laps two and three. Pannell picked up the pace and went by Sanders in a sharp turn on lap four. Sanders shot back around Pannell's KX250 in the next corner and held on for the win. Roy Dean and Terry Joell were the next riders to take the checkers. Sanders was fastest off the line in race two and led Allen, Joell and Pannell. By the end of lap one, Pannell was in first place. Sanders' chance for the overall went by the wayside when he crashed on a drop-off. At the flag, it was Pannell, followed by the YZs of Dean and Allen. eN County line MX Fauntain, Flarida Results: Navember 11, 2001 [Raund 41 P/W (4-6): 1. Blake Noble (KTM); 2. D.J. Oakes (Yam); 3. The Vintage Pro Twin contest was a race between Manhattan, Kansas, buddies Russell Briggs and Bill Snyder, both riding Champion 750cc Yamahas. Briggs took the checkers over Snyder, Steve Bland, Hardman, and Lawn Mower Racing maven Will Kelley. The Vintage Pro Masters eight-Iapper was won by Snyder, on a Yamaha 500 this time. Johnny Isaacs picked up second place after a slow start, while early leader Harry Cone settled for third, over Glen McNamara and Dan Maloney. In the Vintage Super Seniors contest, Freddie Beale upheld his winning streak (that's two for two!) over John Varbel and Georgia's DuWayne Montgomery. Colorado riders Bill Burr and Maloney filled in the top five. Russ Briggs, on a hot streak with his Yamahas, took charge of the Vintage Pro 600cc main and was never headed. Rusty Bond and Richard Stinn diced for second place, with Bond getting the spot for good at the halfway point. The Oklahoma Yamaha rider put the pressure on Briggs, to no avail. Bill Walker finished fourth, over Bill Lewis and Mitch Hovden. Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, rider Varbel put it on the slim Mad Dog Mini field, besting McNamara and Hardman. All were on 100cc Hondas. Wichita Falls' own Mason Smith, on a KTM, led the Pee Wees to starter James Taylor's checkers. Dakota Jones, aboard a Lem, finished second, over KTM pilot Ty Kyles. Colt Chebultz took top honors in the 80cc final over Tye Jackson and Matt Castloo. Jason Kirby jumped into the lead off the start of the 250cc main, only to execute a vicious high-side before the Tulsa speedster, with Hinds in tow. Wyoming's Richard Marrs bested his brother Jerry Marrs for fourth place. The event had to be redflagged about halfway when Mark Witham, who had been dicing with Eslick and Hinds, "horndanced" into the back-straight fence, severely injuring his Rotax -and not doing himself any good in the process. Witham gingerly walked back to the pits but was overheard looking for some Tylenol a short time later. Hull led the restart to the finish. A big 600cc Pro Sport field leaped for the first turn, with Merle Scherb at the point. While Scherb led all the laps and eventual runner-up Rob Pearson from Illinois rode in second, there was a dogfight for third between three riders: Colorado's Shane Arndt, Kansan Justin Whitney and Jared Enright scrapped for the position, with the bucks going to Rotax rider Whitney. Arndt finished fourth, with Enright, aboard injured Bret Sowders' Adams CCM, settled for fifth. Texan Peter Elmer led all the way to win the 250cc-505cc Pro Sport division. Joel Lacer, Scherb, John Whitney and Scott Beckley rounded out the top five. In the Vintage 250cc-500cc race, Bultaco jockey Elmer again led the entire event to grab the gold. Colorado's Frank Hardman put his Harley Sprint into second, over the Yamahas of teammates John Gregory and Juan Gomez. Chad Chebultz, aboard a "rented" Bultaco, finished fifth, over Roy Haines and Frank McAfee. Gregory did better in the Vintage 600cc Amateur go, trophying over Casper, Wyoming's Chuck Ruiz. Gomez and McAfee filled in the next two spots.
