CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series Round 4: Forster Livestock Pavilion IN THE GUSSe STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV LIGHT SALEM, OR, DEC. 7-8 ormer full-time AMA National and Supercross star Ryan Huffman was the weekend's top performer at round four of the CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series, held at the Forster Livestock Pavilion. Huffman, who is currently contesting the Formula USA National Arenacross Series, scored a pair of overall 125cc and 250cc Proclass victories on Saturday night. Huffman fended off fellow Yamaha rider Ryan Leach in the first 250cc Pro-class moto on Saturday and then took advantage of a poor start on Leach's part in moto two to put large ground on the field to finalize his double-class decimation. Leach, who was FTiday's top Pro-class performer, trailed Huffman on Saturday, followed by Washington's J.R. Vielle. Cobra-mounted Steele AngleDavidson was also among the weekend's top performers. The rider from Turner, Oregon, placed his newly acquired Cobra in the winners' circle in the 50cc (7-8) and 50cc Open classes on both nights and also won the Bill's Motorcycles-backed Husky Challenge race, well ahead of previous winner Brandon Barber and R.J. Leach. Angle-Davidson put huge ground on the competition in his first overall win on Friday night in the 50cc (7-9) class, beating KTM-mounted Hunter Johnson. In the 50cc (0-6) division, KTM rider Nolan Beyer picked up his first win with a double-moto sweep, ahead of Polini rider Garrett Christofferson (3-2) and Barber (4-3). AngleDavidson also triumphed in the 50cc Open class, placing substantial ground on the second-placed rider, Husky-mounted Nash Blaylock (2-2). Beyer (3-3) finished third. Honda-mounted Ryan Huege came up big on Friday night, dominating the competition in the Before The Hill and 125cc Intermediate classes. Huege beat the likes of Ben Morgan and Pro rider Vielle to snare his first win of the evening, and then came back to dominate both 125cc motos. Justin Jensen held the point position for two laps in moto one before Huege took command and put huge ground on the rest of the field. Huege also won moto two, followed by Pete Sannan, who placed second overall. Yamaha-mounted Leach and the Suzuki-mounted Vielle went head to 56 JANUARY 9, 2002' eye I e (Above) Steele Angle-Davidson was unstoppable in 50cc competition, dominating the 50cc (7-8) and 50cc Open classes on both days. He also won the Husky Challenge. (LeflI Gared Steinke won three of the four 60Cc Open and 60Cc Senior classes on the weekend, taking a Saturday sweep at round four of the CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series. head in the 250cc Pro class on Friday, but the outcome was much the same as it has been all season long: in Leach's favor. The much-improved Vielle finished a close second to Leach to snare second overall, ahead of KTM-mounted Gary Beyer (3-3) and local rider Eric Roth. Roth's Kawasaki debut saw the rider from Salem finishing 4-4 on the evening. On Saturday, Angle-Davidson was again the top contender in the 50cc ranks, while KTM rider Gared Steinke hammered the competition in the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes. Steinke stormed to the head of the field in all four motos for a sweep of the 60cc action. Brothers Travis and Tyler McClinton spent much of all four motos battling for runner-up laurels, with Travis picking up the position in the 60cc Open class. Jared Wood trailed Steinke in the 60cc Senior class, followed by Tyler McClinton. Huffman gated poorly in the first 125cc Pro/Intermediate-class moto and found himself with too much ground to make up and trailed the up-and-coming Sannan at the finish. Moto two, though, was all Huffman's. He bolted to the front of the field at the unleashing and put considerable ground on 14-year-old KTM rider Sannan to take his win. Justin Jensen and Jesse Williams were also among n e _ s the front-runners, but it was Williams (3-2) who took second overall, ahead of Jensen (2-4) and Kawasakimounted Dale Corrs (4-3). The No Fear/Action Cycles/Scotti Washougal-backed Huffman came back several motos later to trounce the competition in the 250cc Pro class. Huffman got the holeshot, followed by Leach and Vielle. Huffman had a good thing going up front and backed off the pace on the final laps to edge Leach at moto's end. Leach, though, was recipient of a poor start in moto two and spent much of the moto reeling in Huffman after expending much energy trying to get around Vielle. By that time, however, Huffman had an untouchable lead, and he breezed to the finish to cap off a 1-1 win, ahead of the Axo/ Herb's Cycletown/Spectro-supported Leach (2-2). Vielle finished third (3-3), followed by Roth (4-4) and the topplacing Intermediate rider, YZ pilot Casey Daugherty. The Pro Caliber/DTR Racingbacked Vielle's day was salvaged with a win in the Before The Hill Pro/Intermediate contest, using a 1-2 tally to top Yamaha rider Jason Parks, the second-moto winner, and Sannan, who finished third overall via 2-3 placings. eN Forster Uvestoclc Pavilion S11lem, Oregon Results: December 7-8, 2001 [Round 41 Friday P/W (4-6): 1.
