Ask any pro what the key to winning is. You'll find it's not just one thing, but a combination of factors. Horsepower is useless if it doesn't get to the ground. And the most responsive bike in the world is stuck in the dust if everyone blows by it on the straights. In short, it takes balanced performance to win. And that's what the 2002 RM250 is all about: the ultimate balance of power and responsiveness. Start with the engine. This year it's modified for better power delivery and harder-hitting mid- and high-range performance. The exhaust port is enlarged and reshaped, and it now has a one-piece valve in place of a two-piece design. The new single-piece exhaust valve moves independently from the auxiliary exhaust port valve for optimum port timing, and that produces more power and smoother throttle response through the mid-range. A new, lighter expansion chamber with a shorter exhaust silencer complements the new exhaust valve, and further enhances the crisp throttle response. Piston-to-cylinder clearance has also been tightened, which increases piston durability and reduces mechanical noise. Finally, for smoother shifting and improved long-term durability, both the clutch and transmission have been thoroughly refined. 'Newly designed one-piece main exhaust valve replaces two-piece design for increased mid- and high-range performance. 'Exhaust port is increased in size for improved mid-range and top-end performance. 'Crankshaft balance ratio modified for smoother power delivery. 'Tighter piston clearance increases piston durability and reduces mechanical noise. 'Race-proven refinements to engine, chassis and suspension produce better, more integrated balance of power and responsiveness. Now you have two ways to clean up!
