The outdoor track hadn't seen much use prior to the race lind hlld II nice layer of grass covering it. The rllces for the day included two motos for 50s, one moto each for '70s, Open, Women and Juniors, and two Team races. The riders' meeting was held at 11 a.m. and racing started at 11;30. The 50cc races determine the numberone-plate holder for next season, and moto one was the first on the schedule. The start was a live-engine, LeMans-style one, with the riders running approximately 20 feet to their bikes. Brian Poulson got the holeshot on his XR50, with a tight pack behind him consisting of Jim Jaquette, Dave Schutte, John Cox, and defending champion Jody Braasch. During the second lap, Braasch managed to get lIround Cox. Schutte encountered bike problems, and Jeff Cassaday cased the double hard, ending his race. Poulson held the lead until the third lap, when Jaquette made 2l pass in the hl'lkpin corner between whoop sections, There may have been some partial contl'lct, which also allowed Braasch and Cox to get around. A few comers later, Jaquette ran wide and Braasch slipped by. Braasch held on for the win, with Jaquette in second and Poulson in third. The kids' race started in a tight pack but spread out after J.T. Cox and Mitchell Kraft went down in the whoop sections, Dylan Braasch came from third to take the lead; be led through two laps but then crashed on one of the tabletops along the back straight. Both Jordan Cassaday and J.T. passed him. However, J.T. crashed moments later. Dylan got up and running again, but he didn't have time to catch Jordan. TIle Women's race was next. Lori Brl'lasch took the holeshot on her XRSO. Wendy Shasteen wasn't far behind on her ZSO. Shasteen had some difficulty with the big hill, which left Tori Cox and Patty Cox fighting for second place. Despite Tori's attempt at the double, Patty was able to pull ahead. Lori went on to win the event again, The second SOcc mota was the last race of the day, and it would determine who would hold the number-one plate. As long as anyone but Jaquette took the victory, Jody Braasch only needed second to win and repellt as champion. Chris Cox led the field into turn one, with Braasch close behind, followed by Poulson, Schutte and Jaquette. During the third lap, Kelvin Shasteen had a get-off on the big hill, and Jody passed Chris over the double. Two turns later, Jody went down. In his hurry to get started, he picked his bike up and hit Chris as he was passing. This gave the lead to Poulson, while Jody and Schutte battled over second. Schutte got around Jody and put some pressure on Poulson but was unable to
