AMA/Mid-South Championship Winter Hare Scrambles Series Round 4: The Big Stripper Allen Enjoys the Stripper By DEBBIE ALLEN LYNNVILLE, IN, NOV. 18 T Bennuda MX: David Oettel won five out of six motos at the !Wo-day TCC Drywall Remembrance Day Invitational on Coney Island in Bermuda. Fisher rode many different bikes after suffering his share of motor problems. "These bikes are good for the limited resources they have here," Fisher said, "but some are not set up to be ridden as hard as we are riding them." Consistency landed Fisher second overall in the Pro class, just barely ahead of Kelly. For the time being, Kelly had BMC president Ken Parker's YZ250F to call his own, and even with a new bike, his weekend wasn't perfect. A local rider who was kind enough to lend his bike to the American riders was left bikeless after his bike succumbed to Fisher's more aggressive style, so the YZ250F was offered to him. He had never ridden a four-stroke before, and he rode with the choke on his first time out. Kelly was waiting for his ride to meet him at the starting line, and he didn't realize the choke was on until after the race started. McCorkel rides the B class in the States, but he stiJI challenged the A-class riders all weekend. He was a crowd favorite, busting heel clickers and Superman airs on his way to fourth. The two fastest locals on the island are Otis Ingham and TCC Drywall's Jimmy Lee Weaver. Ingham is the only rider with a 250 on the island. In some extra-curricular activities on Sunday night, he rode his bike into a pond in the infield of the track. He still won the overall, being the only rider in the class. On Monday, he rode the 125cc class and won for the day, giving him fourth overall despite not scoring any points in that class on Sunday. Weaver won the 125cc B class overall, despite crashing out of one moto. After a second-overall finish on day one, Shaki Easton was set to challenge Weaver for the first- 82 JANUARY 2, 2002' cue • place trophy but was knocked unconscious on day two, giving him ninth on the day. Lorenzo Burch used consistent scores of 3-4 to finish second. Zico Majors dominated both days of 125cc C action. Second was hardfought between Graham Sutherland and Kyle Tavares. On day one, Tavares finished second, but a crash on day two left him on the ground just long enough to let Sutherland score enough points to move up in the overall. Fourth place went to the fastest girl on the island, Melonie Munro, who beat out Maurice Symons. The minibike classes all dished out good racing, but the results don't indicate how close the racing really was. Drake Simmons bested Joshua Charlton in both days of 80cc C racing. In the 80cc B class, Anthony Grant beat out Antoine Bean. In the 65cc class, c.J. Ratteray won both days over Zakhai Iris. Corrie Wolffe won both days of 50cc (7-9) action. Sanjay Fostin and Serjunnae Burgess swapped second and third, with Fostin getting the nod with a better performance on day two. In the 50cc (4-6) class, Kenshae Wilson won over Kyle Parker on both days. CN Bermuda MX Coneylsbmd,Bennuda Results: November 11-12, 2001 50 (4-6): I. Kenshae Wilson; 2. Luke Parker (KTM); 3. I made a ton of mistakes because I was so nervous." One costly mistake was made two miles into the second lap. McCrea blew the corner on an off-camber ridge and went from first to last. He played catch-up for the rest of the day. Allen took the lead and swapped with Watts several times. "There were times when I was giving it my all and riding real hard," Allen said. "I turned my head to watch him, and he'd be going just as fast, doing wheelies. I'm not sure what I have to do to keep up this luck I'm having, but I appreciate everyone's support while it lasts. It's neat to hear people cheering me." Allen finished the race first overall and first place in AA, claiming his fourth consecutive win this season. McCrea moved in to claim a comfortable second-place podium spot in the overall and in the AA class. He was a minute down from Allen and claimed the fastest lap of 29:51. he Lynnville Area Dirt Riders gave a $500 Pro purse to the overa II winner of the AMA/Pirelli Tire/Parts Unlimited/Moose/White Brotherssponsored fourth round of the MidSouth Championship Winter Hare Scrambles Series. Shane Watts impressed everyone with his fast moves - but he wasn't the one who claimed the prize. As luck would have it, Watts crashed out while in pursuit of P.A. Allen. Watts was unable to finish the last lap; Allen grabbed the glory. "It was fun riding with Watts today," Allen said. "We both rode conservatively for the first couple of laps. I knew he was playing around, and 1 figured he would stay behind me for a while. If I gave it my all, I would just wear myself out. We raced the whole race together until the last lap. The last time I saw him was when I passed him while he was getting gas." Watts took his time and rode at a leisurely pace for the first three laps. After gassing during the third lap, play time was over, so he pushed the "fast" button and aimed for the lead. The only problem was, he didn't come through at the next spectators' point. Allen did, and then McCrea, and before long so did the 250cc A riders, but there was no Watts in sight. Just before the end of the race, he was found at his van. "I broke my ribs," Watts said. "I had a fun day, but I made a bad mistake." He ta pped a tree pretty hard trying to catch the Sarge's Cycles/Oakley/ Pro Action of Kentucky/FMF/GPRsponsored Allen on the last lap. Nevertheless, people enjoyed seeing Watts in action and hoped for his quick recovery. "I got the start The Big Stripper: Shane Watts was Impressive at round four of and led the first lap," the AMAIMid-South Championship Winter Hare Scrambles series sa id Bloomington in Lynnville, Indiana, but he didn't claim the prize. That honor Power Sports/Team went to P.A. Allen after Watts crashed hard and broke his ribs. Gr~en/Renthal/
