Antelope Valley Fairgrounds Pugmire Perfect at Stadium Cross By GREG ROBERTSON Victorville Motocross Comple", David Delang puts his CRF on cruise control over the high-desert landscape near Victorville, California. LANCASTER,CA,NOV.18 Team Green's Trent Pugmire found the hardpacked supercross layout at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds to his liking, as he went four for four to capture wins in both the 65cc (9-11) and 80cc (7-11) classes during the third and final round of the Hemme Motorsports-promoted Antelope Valley Stadium Cross. Pugmire was untouchable in the first 65cc race. He rounded the first tum with a lead that would eventually grow to 20 seconds by time the checkers fell. Jeagher LaFontaine and Michael Truglia engaged in a moto-Iong battle over second place that would go to LaFontaine. Blake Baggett claimed fourth, over Chris Taft and Kyle Smith. KTM·mounted LaFountaine got the holeshot in round two but was quickly passed by Pugmire. Truglia came up to challenge LaFontaine as Pugmire disappeared for the win. LaFontaine kept Truglia at bay once again for the entire distance to earn the second-place trophy. Baggett and Taft rounded out the top five. Pugmire was equally impressive on his Simi Kawasaki/Sinisalo/Dirt Digits/Smith- backed KX85 in the 80cc (7-11) class, as he turned a pair of holeshots into wire· to-wire wins. Suzuki-mounted Bryce Terzian kept Pugmire within sight en route to a pair of run· ner-up finishes. laFontaine and Truglia went at it again, with LaFontaine (4-3) topping Truglia (3-4). Baggett was fifth in both motos. Chad Abbott controlled the pace out front throughout both 125cc Beginner motos aboard his JMG/Fox/N-Style-sponsored VZ 125. Collin McCaslin went 2-2 on the day after holding off the repeated challenges of Jason Ellis during the second moto. Tony Price made his way to the front of the 80cc Beginner class early in mota one and stay there to take the win, ahead of Brad Quintana, Jon McNeil and Matthew Hendrix. Quintana, D.avid Boyle, Hendrix and Prince would argue over the top spot early in the second outing until Prince tapped the rear wheel of Quintana upon landing off a jump and went down hard. Quintana went down himself half a lap later, handing the lead to Hendrix, who motored away from his competition to collect the overall on a 4·1 score. Prince recovered to go 1-4 for second overall, topping Boyie (5-2) and Quintana (2-5). Results 50 SHAFT BEG: 1. Nicholes Merder (Yom); 2. Coleb Tangldy (Yam). PfW BEG (0-6): I. Beau Crigler: 2. Complex, in what is turning out to be a bambumer of a series. As the VMC Fall Series hit its halfway point at round three, the riders showed no signs of giving an inch. The Riverside Old-Timers were also in attendance. Despite the presence of extra riders, the day and the motos went by quickly, and the track conditions remained perfect. As the Vet riders took the field, Robert Modica got the jump off the line, but a misshift as he approached the corner quickly sent him back to fourth. Dave Deiang, on his new Honda CRF, capitalized and took over the lead and disappeared from the rest of the group. in hot pursuit were Chuck Tuey and Michael Mersing. With Delang pulling the rest of the field, the battle was really for second. Tuey stalled coming out of a comer in the back and was overtaken by Mersing, who slid out only half a lap later, giving the position to Modica. Coming up from the back of the pack was Jim Masters; with a late-race charge, he overtook Modica for the second-place position. In the second moto. Modica once again railed out of the gate, but as they- approached the comer, Masters slipped by and nabbed the holeshot. As the two riders shot down the straightaway, Delang passed by the lead riders like they were standing still. As the group exited the corner, Delang started to pull again. Try as they might, Masters and Modica were not able to catch Delang. Modica shadowed Masters for the rest of the race but wasn't able to make a pass. The closest attempt at a pass was when Modica went to the inside on the last corner of the last lap. With the top three riders way out in front, the battle was for fourth. Mersing and Scott Burroughs battled, but it was Burroughs who was able to overtake and hold off the charging Mersing. Results 80 BEG: I. Dillon Jones: 2. Cody Gonzttlez; 3. Jake Narmore; 4.
