AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series Round 4: Oak Hill MX Park By KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER PHOTOS BY KAT SPANN DECATUR, TX, NOV. 3-4 -35/FMF/Varner Racing/909/ AI-pinestars-sponsored Shane Doughty nailed down four perfect motos in the 125cc and 250cc Pro ' events at round four of the AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series. Almost 600 riders entered as the series neared its end. This round at Oak Hill MX Park served as the rain date for what was supposed to be the opening round at Village Creek. With the Oak Hill venue added to the roster, series riders got the opportunity to taste yet another addition to Texas' premier motocross facilities. Team Green's James Marshall continued to wreak havoc in the 250cc Intermediate and Open classes, along with taking the overall in the 125cc Intermediate class. Marshall was the only "three-peat" winner of this particular round, gathering points along the way in his effort to claim the Dunlop Silver Cup award, to be presented at the final round to the series' top points collector. Doughty gated runner-up to Nathan Hale in the first 250cc Pro moto. Doughty passed Hale for the lead near the end of the first lap and immediately began to distance himself from Hale, who now had to fend off Jason Upshaw. Though Upshaw showed Hale a tire a time or two, Hale held his position until both went down on lap three when they collided in the sweeper before the starting area. Hale earned a trip to the hospital; it was later discovered Hale suffered four broken ribs. Upshaw remounted after losing positions to Scott Trimble, Chad Plumlee and Michael Keating. Trimble miscued on the final lap, allowing Plumlee to take second, with Trimble in his wake, Keating fourth and Upshaw fifth. Moto two belonged to Doughty, who nailed the holeshot. Matt Karlsen and Upshaw battled bar to bar for second; Upshaw assumed the spot. Colt Humphrey and Dennis Bonner ran fourth and fifth. Dwain Carter got around Bonner on lap three for fifth and held the position for two laps before Plumlee, who suffered a less-than-stellar start, got by on the final lap to finish fifth. Doughty (1-1) took the overall win. Upshaw (5-2) was second. Third went to Plumlee (2-5), while Karlsen (8-3) claimed fourth. Humphrey (7 -4) rounded out fjfth. Terren O'Dell of Arkansas showed the way through the first turn in the first 60cc (7-9) moto. Blake Wharton, Chaz Holladay and Sean Miller got into the game quickly. O'Dell stayed out front into the second lap, with Wharton and Holladay all over him like butter on toast. Both Wharton and O'Dell raced so close, they almost hit one another's tires at the front of the track. On the (Left! Terren O'Dell (7) of Arkansas absconded with the holeshot in both 65cc (7-9) motos in Decatur, Texas. Blake Wharton (597) battled early with O'Dell in the first moto until Wharton fell. (Far left) Shane DOU9hty (10) fended off attacks from Jason Upshaw (13) early in the 250cc Pro contest but eventually extended his lead for the win at round four of the AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series. (Below) Jonathan Kerr has shown more and more confidence competing among the bigger 125s since retiring from 60s after Loretta's. KerT got the holeshot in both 125cc Schoolboy starts at Oak Hill MX Part< and stayed out front to take the overall. final lap, Wharton jumped past O'Dell for the lead. Sandwiched between the KTMs of Wharton and Holladay, O'Dell kept his Kawasaki steady as they cleared the checkered flag. O'Dell got the second-moto holeshot, with Holladay in second and Wharton third. Wharton took the lead on the first lap, passing first Holladay and then O'Dell. Wharton fell on the final lap on the right side of the track, which opened the gate for Holladay to take the lead - which he graciously did. Holladay won the moto and used his first-moto third for the overall win, while O'Dell finished 2-2 for second. Wharton remounted and came in 20th to finish 11 th overall in the 23rider gate. Zeb Smith finished with a consistent pair of fours for third overall, while Blaze Blackburn and Sean Miller rounded out the top five. Jonathan Kerr got the best start to lead the first 125cc Schoolboy moto. Nathan Doughty was second until Greg Chapman got around him on the first lap. Doughty, now third, had Cody Dickey all over his rear tire. Kerr immediately put distance on the 21rider gate as Dickey tried once again to get around Doughty on lap two, but he bobbled and lost several positions. Lance Hollister moved into fourth, followed by Nick Blatt and Rusty Huddle. Dickey suffered bike problems and continued to lose positions, struggling just to stay in the top 10. Meanwhile, Doughty fell in the last turn before the white flag and dropped from third to eighth. Hollister gladly moved up a notch to third, followed by Blatt and Jesse Moore at the checkered flag. Huddle snared the second-moto holeshot, but Kerr took the lead in turn two. Huddle repassed Kerr at the front of the track by the tower on lap two, but Kerr powered back by Huddle and took the lead again. Dickey got into the game and battled with Huddle for second. Once by Huddle, Dickey went after Kerr, passing him in the back to lead lap two. On the final lap, Dickey was in charge, with Huddle tracking down Kerr for second, but Kerr held his ground. Chapman finished fourth, followed by Hollister and Moore. Kerr took the overall win with a 1-2 count. eN Decatur. Telas Results: November 3-4, 2001 [Round 4J 125 OPEN: 1. Danny Oznick Jr. (Suz); 2.
