pack. "I knew I had to get to the front fast," he said. "This was [my] first supercross for a year, and before that I had ridden Paris in 1998. I have such a good base from racing in America. I had to watch my way in the final, and I had to keep an eye on the leaders. The track was so rutty, you have to be so careful. The ruts got so deep in the main, and you could easily get flipped off. The last two times I raced in this stadium I got injured, so I was extra careful. In 1990, I hurt my shoulder, and in 1992, I also got hurt. Warren Edwards crashed and I got by him. I really like racing supercross, yet with my schedule it's difficult." Hucklebridge felt he could have won the final, had the race been a little longer. He also felt racing the Bercy Supercross a week prior to Birmingham gave him some extra motivation. "I felt strong at the end of the race," Hucklebridge said. "He's a talented rider, and I knew he would be the one to beat. However, I started closing on him near the end. Doing Bercy last week really pumped me up; plus the track at Bercy was much more difficult than this one, which probably helped. The jumps at Bercy are big, but here the tracks so tight you have to really watch out here - one bad line, and you're in trouble." In the 125cc races, Danish Grand Prix rider Brian Jorgensen won ahead of South African Leigh Le Reservee on a Yamaha, and England's Tom Church on a Kawasaki. For several riders in the 125cc final, it was a messy affair, as England's two favorites - Stephen Sword and Billy MacKenzie - were balked on the opening lap. Both had to race through the pack to finish in fifth and sixth, respectively. The night belonged to the Dane, though. With a win in his heat race and an easy win in the final, the rider known as Jorgy was just happy to leave the Birmingham stadium in one piece. "I started this morning and did not feel comfortable," Jorgensen said. "I got better in every race, and the track had many ruts. It was difficult to pass, and at times a little dangerous - crashing was something that could have happened in the blink of an eye. I just wanted to stay on the bike and not go over the bars or do anything stupid, and I pretty much did that to win. I got a good start and that pretty much made my race much easier." eN NEe Stadium Birmingham, England Results: November 17, 2001 250 O/A: 1. Jomie Dobb (KTM); 2. Mork Hucklebridge (Kaw): 3.
