Mid-South Championship Youth Hare Scrambles Series Round 2: New Hope Hare Scrambles Smith, Green Take New Hope By crossed the finish line with a foursecond lead over Nash. Metall~a held on for third, and Creasor rode his Honda to fourth. KTM-mounted lack McCord, the last rider on the lead lap, took fifth. The Junior class got off to an exciting start with Chaz Green and Dustin Smith hitting the woods first. The rest of the pack trailed and spent the first two laps jockeying for position. Green began to pull away, with Kawasaki-mounted Jake Young fighting with lappers to close the gap. Jesse Maupin and Smith trailed Young, with a charging Brandon Crawford close behind. Green had taken his Yamaha to a minute lead at the checkered flag. Young finished a strong second. Maupin shook free for third, leaving Crawford and Smith to round out the top five, only two seconds apart. NATRA laid out a fun, challenging course, and the conditions were perfect. The series has gotten more than 50 riders for the first two rounds, and everyone is looking forward to a great racing season. eN JEFFREY KETCHUM NEW HOPE, AL, OCT. 21 arm, sunny weather welcomed 56 riders to the second round of the Mid-South Championship Youth Hare Scrambles Series in New Hope, Alabama. Sponsored by the North Alabama Trail Riders Association, the race was held on a working sod farm. The 1.5-mile course consisted of sweeping trails that wound through a wooded creek bottom. The Mini class was the first to hit the trails, and it didn't take long for Cody Smith to take his KTM into the lead. The rest of the field remained bunched until lack Taylor and lack Cornett broke free. Smith continued to build on his lead and eventually took the checkered flag to earn his second win. A six-rider pack battled for the remaining spots. When the dust settled, Taylor brought his Yamaha across the line for second, and Honda-mounted Cornett came in third. Anthony Ferguson and Brown Holden rounded out the top five. Nineteen riders lined up for the Intermediate class. Luke Robinson and lac Nash took their Kawasakis out front and battled the entire race, with several lead changes. Wooded trails and lappers kept the racing close. Meanwhile, PriegeJ stormed through traffic, finishing third in the moto. The result was a three-way points tie for the gold, with Griffis on top via his 3-1 tally over Mackey (2-2) and Priegel (1-3). Jeremy Wilson was fourth. Mackey came back in the 250cc C class and won with a perfect score. In the 10-rider 50cc Shaft-Drive class, series leader Tyler Piper suffered mechanical problems in moto one that set him back to a last-place finish. Piper came back to win moto two, netting fifth overall. Meanwhile, Eduardo Cordoba put together 1-3 finishes and claimed the top honors over Jake Coursey and Max Tannenbaum. Cordoba switched to his Cobra mount for the 50cc (4-6) contest and won both motos over Kyle Clark and -Cory Day. Cordoba is the series leader in this class. South Carolina's P.J. Larsen won both of the 60cc (10-11) motos aboard his Cycle Werks-prepared Kawasaki. Bubba Crosby put in a good effort, but he couldn't catch Larsen and had to settle for the runner-up slot. Crosby returned in the eocc (7 -II) contest and won both motos. CN MACON, GA, OCT. 28 aradise Off-Road Park played host to round 13 of the 15-round Georgia Promoters Group AMA District 9 Best of Georgia MX Series. Maxxis Tires came forward as the event's major sponsor, and more than 300 riders from all over the southeastern United States turned out to compete in one or more of the 32 classes offered. Georgia's Michael Graham squared off with Stephen Houseman of South Carolina in a close, day-long battle for the 125cc Youth (12-15) division win. Houseman led every lap of the opening moto, with Graham following in second. In moto two, Yamahamounted Houseman again took the lead, ahead of Motorsport Honda's Graham. This time, however, Graham followed Houseman for just one lap before taking over the point position. Graham held on for the moto win and the overall, ahead of Houseman. Clint Stagner of Alabama earned the bronze in a points tie over Terry Jones. Florida's Justin Link rounded out the top five. Capitol Cycle's Derrick Fisher finished first in all four A-division motos. Outdoor Powers portsbacked Brian Raymond had to settle for runner-up honors behind Fischer in both classes. Raymond leads the series points chase in both the 125cc and 250cc A classes. The Unlimited (16-24) contest turned into a heartbreaker for first-moto winner Scott Perry when he was unable to start in moto two. Series leader Matt Howard nailed the holeshots in both motos, and his eventual 3-2 tally earned the gold ahead of Brandon Priegel. Priegel returned in the fierce 125cc C races, where he brawled with two other Yamaha four-stroke pilots in a very close battle for the honors. Priegel won the opening moto, with J.J.
