STORV AND PHOTOS BV CRAIG JOHNSON AND ANGELA HARDEN GAINESVILLE, Fl, OCT. 28 avi Millsaps put in a lot of riding time at the final round of the 19th annual Florida Gold Cup Series, presented by Unlimited Sports. Millsaps and all the other riders got the chance to practice on Saturday and race on a well-prepared track on Sunday. Millsaps took home wins in the 125cc Youth, Supermini and 85cc (12-13) classes. Temperatures in the low 60s greeted 438 riders from 15 states. Many riders were here as a warm-up for the upcoming Winter Olympics and to check out the competition. Bryan Johnson led the first 125cc Youth mota, with Levi Sammons, Dan Truman, Shaun Skinner and Millsaps breathing down his neck, but Johnson slowly pulled out to the mota win. Millsaps moved up to second by the end of the mota. Truman kept his thirdplace position. Sammons dropped to fourth, and Zack Lundy rounded out the top five. Skinner fell before the elevator on lap two and ended up sixth. Johnson led mota two until the last lap, when problems caused him to DNF. Millsaps started second and took the win. Lundy wound up in second. Skinner recovered from a bad start to take third. Dean Dyess and Ryan Warren rounded out the top five. Truman's bike sounded sick as he finished 21 st. Millsaps won the Supermini class with double mota wins over Matt Goerke and Matt Bani. The combined 85cc (12-13) and (14-15) contest was a little tougher for Millsaps, as Goerke was on fire in the first mota. Goerke pulled the holeshot and led the first lap until the bottom of the elevator. Goerke fell and dropped to fourth, and then caught and passed Millsaps and Bani. Goerke set his sights on the leader, Nicolas Evennou. On the nextto-last lap, Goerke passed Evennou on the long sweeper. Millsaps ended up third, winning the 85cc (12-13) class, and Bani and Billy Harper followed. In the second mota, Goerke, Millsaps and Evennou put on a show while dicing for the lead. Millsaps grabbed the lead on the last lap. Harper and Bani followed the trio. The Pro classes had their best turnout of the series. Tyson Hadsell led the first 125cc Pro mota, over Paul Veracka, Jarrett Tipping, Troy Adams and Brandon Butler. Hadsell turned up the throttle and won the mota. Veracka fell on the first lap, moving Tipping, Adams and Butler up. Veracka recovered for fourth after getting back by Butler. Brian Gray also got by Butler, for fifth, on the last lap. Paul Perebijnos captured the second-mota lead. Butler, Adams, Hadsell and Gray were all looking for the top spot. (Bottom) Austin Stroupe (981) wins the 85cc (7-11) class, ahead of runner-up Kyle Keylon (80)- the next couple of laps until Adams turned on the supercharger. Adams passed him and never looked back. Butler's second was in the bag until the last lap, when problems dropped him to sixth. Tipping and Gray's seesaw battle for third was now for second. Tipping ended up with the second spot, over Gray. Early leader Perebijnos ended up fourth, over Roy Horton. Hadsell was out front in the first 250cc Pro moto. Full-time National rider Jason Thomas passed Hadsell and took the mota win. Hadsell tried staying close and ended up second. The race was for third, as Michael Steveson, Adams and Tipping all mixed it up. Adams and Tipping dropped Steveson to fifth by the last lap. Thomas led the second mota and sailed to the win. Veracka started second and ended up there. Hadsell worked his way throug m h the pack after a bad start. Hadsell passed Steveson for third on the last lap. Jeremy Shuttleworth and Tipping started fourth and fifth, only to switch places by the last lap for the fifth and sixth spots. In the Pee Wee Oil-Injected class, Jeffrey Mulder won in an upset over Donald Deperna and Ricky Hampshire. Mulder scored a 2-1 tally over Deperna's 1-3 to get the win. Adam Cianciarulo (5-2) finished third overall. Deperna and Hampshire finished either first or second at every round except for the final one. Deperna took four overalls for the class championship over Hampshire's two. The largest class of the day was the 85cc (7-11) class, in which 46 riders ran qualifiers for the first mota. Austin Stroupe from Lincolnton, North Carolina, won the first qualifier. Michael Picone and Kyle Keylon started second and third, only to switch places. Colten Maynard and Taylor Johnson rounded out the top five. Ricky Renner won the second qualifier, over Jase Lewis. Matthew Lemoine, Marcello Goday and Arthur Cofield were third through fifth. Keylon led early in mota two. Stroupe passed and pulled away for the win and the overall. Lemoine lost third at the end to Lewis.
