AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series Round 3: Cooperland Raceway (Below) Yes, 39-year old Guy Cooper still has what it takes! "Coop" rallied to take the 250Cc Pro win away from the young'una and then valiantly won the Over 25 A class. By KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER PHOTOS BY TODD HEEMSBERGEN STILLWATER, OK, OCT. 13-14 exan James Marshall collected four overall wins among the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate and Open events when the sixth annual AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series landed at Cooperland Raceway for round three. Although Marshall's performance among the 599 entered riders was not matched, three other riders managed to take double class wins - including Guy Cooper himself, who stormed the 250cc Pro and Over 25 A classes. Randall Williams and Clayton Miller matched off fer the holeshot in the first 125cc Intermediate moto, with Adam Turner taking the lead on the first lap. Cody Dickey chased Turner in second, followed by Jesse Moore, Miller, Donnie Bunker and James Marshall. By the end of lap two, Marshall was in third. Just shy of the end of the next lap, Dickey came into the finish-line sweeper too hot and overshot the berm, opening the door for Marshall to take second. With only one lap left, Marshall ran out of time to catch the leader and had to settle for second. Marshall got the moto-two holeshot and led from wire to wire. Aaron Smith gated second but lost his position to Turner on lap two in the wooded section. Smith latched on to third, while Miller and Dickey battled over fourth, and John Baker and Robbie Smith squabbled over sixth. Marshall took both the moto and the overall, while Turner finished up second. Dickey used the last section of the track before the finish line to attempt one more time to get around Miller but slid out, displacing what should have been a fifth-place moto finish to 12th for seventh overall. Miller (4-4) was third. Since relinquishing the promoting side of motocross and selling his interest in Cooperland Raceway in order to dedicate more time to his duties as KTM regional manager, 39year-old Guy Cooper hasn't had much time to get out and play. This was, however, irrelevant in Sunday's 250cc Pro program when Cooper lined the gate. "Coop" grabbed the first-moto holeshot and never looked back as he led KTM/Cycle Town South's Dean Lane on a merry chase to the checkered flag. Chris Drummond gated third in the race, followed by "Whisper'n" Smith, Dwain Carter 30 NOVEMBER ~8, 2001 holeshot in the first Over 30 moto, with Flavio Quiroga in second. Parks got around Quiroga on lap one for second, with Marvin Skinner in his wake. Cornelia held the lead to the finish, with Parks second. In the second moto, Skinner grabbed the holeshot, with Cornelia in second. Gary Reed gated third but passed Cornelia in the first straight. Parks got around Cornelia on the first lap and charged after Reed for second, passing him at the top of lap two in the finish-line sweeper. Parks then set his sights on Skinner for the lead, jumping past him over the first tabletop. Parks took the win and overall; Skinner held fast to second. Back in the pack was up-and-coming Texas Pro rider Shane Doughty, in ninth. By the end of lap three, Doughty was charging hard behind Long, who had taken over fifth on lap two when Smith overshot the finish-line berm and fell. Once Doughty picked off Long for fourth, he focused on Drummond for third, following through with his plan on the final lap but lacking the time to catch either Lane or Cooper. Rookie Pro rider Colt Humphrey snared the second-moto holeshot, but Long took the lead out of the first turn, with Cooper in third. Coop got around Humphrey for second and went after Long. At the end of the second lap, Cooper put a move on Long in the corner off the start area and cut inside to take the lead. Once out front, Coop was just flat out awesome. Once again, Doughty started near the back of the pack and had to work his way forward. By the end of lap four, it was dogfight between Long, Doughty and Keith Cooper for cue. e second place. Doughty took the bone, and second place with it, from Long on the final lap. Guy Cooper added another win to his resume by taking the Over 25 A overall, with Chad Plumlee and Lane second and third, respectively. Trevor Parks had to race hard to claim the wins in both the Over 25 and Over 30 C categories. Of the four motos betwe.en the two events, four different riders claimed a holeshot. Parks' best start was in the second Over 25 moto, when he nailed a perfect start and held the lead throughout the race for both the moto and overall win. Brian Bond got the holeshot in the first moto, with Parks in the runner-up spot, but then he took the lead on lap two and kept it to the finish. Mark Cornelia absconded with the (RIght) Trevor Pam ventured up from Carrollton, Texas, and crossed back across the Red River with both the Over 25 and Over 30 Novice wins under his belt.
