Elsinore Grand Prix BIkes slip and slide on the wet ....ment for Sunday's ot»--class race. STORY AND PHOTOS BY MATT FREEMAN LAKE ELSINORE, CA, NOV. 10-11 igning up under a pseudonym like S Harvey Mushman could not have fooled spectators from recognizing Shane Watts. At many large-scale events, like the GFI Racing/Goat Eyewear Elsinore Grand Prix, it's easy to blend in with the crowd. However, in the case of Watts, it's hard to blend in when you win four of the five races you signed up for. By late Sunday afternoon, everyone coherent in the town of Lake Elsinore either knew who Shane Watts was or had at least noticed that the little guy with a mohawk haircut and a KTM motorcycle was the fastest man in town. A runner-up finish in the 125cc event and race wins in the 250cc, Open and 25+ classes set Watts up for the most impressive win of all the Harvey Mushman 100, in which he set a blistering pace, turning in 24 laps around the approximate six-mile R.J. Thompson was the only rider to finish ahead of Watts. Thompson won the 125cc Expert class. 20 NOVEMBER 28. 2001 • cue I e n e _ s
