to a second-place start and held it all the way to the checkers, while Swift once again rounded out the top three. More than 300 riders were met with a bit of a surprise, as the normally black-clay Hollister Hills GP track featured a fresh, sand-laderi surface that eve~ caught promoter Jack Azevedo off guard. "We came out on Friday to prep and found the entire track blanketed with fresh sand," Azevedo said. "We found out that the state just recently spent three days straight making dumps, and it's going to make this track so much better as it gets worked in with the clay." With the addition of all the sand, track conditions were quite different, as huge braking and acceleration bumps developed, as well as whooped-out straight sections. While the bigger bikes negotiated the terrain fairly well, it sent many of the Mini riders seeking new lines. Daniel Reen found all the right lines in the 60cc Beginner class, and he pulled off a pair of wins over second-place finisher Stuart Luper. Reen absconded with the holeshot in both motos, and it was a good thing, as he avoided a huge second-moto, thirdturn pile-up. Luper also avoided the chaos and, just as in moto one, he followed Reen to the checkers. Michael Coffey wasn't as lucky, though, he had to pull out after untangling his bike from the pile-up. The incident cost him dearly, as a third-place finish in moto one left him with a 3-21 score for 12th on the day. Zac Cyr rounded out the top three with a well-earned 5-3 showing on the day. In 60cc Novice action, Flores came out on top with a pair of comefrom-behind wins. In both motos, Flores came off the gate in third and had to make his way to the front, engaging in brief battles along the way with the likes of Zak FredricKson and Dylan Lane. In fact, Flores went down on the white-flag lap in moto one and recovered just in time, as Fredrickson was closing in. The two crossed the finish line nearly side by side, with Flores getting the nod. Fredrickson's efforts on the day netted him a 2-2 score, which was good enough for second on the day, while Lane followed up with a 3-4 tally, which was good enough for third overall.
