Yamaha-mounted Huffman topped the Up The Hill and 250cc Pro classes to join Suzuki rider Race Lacey and Honda jockey Ryan Thompson in their elite club. Thompson posted overall wins in the Before The Hill and 125cc Intermediate classes, while Lacey, the younger brother of National Arenacross star Tiger Lacey, scored wins in the Schoolboy and 125cc Junior classes. Huffman, 25, now a part-timer on the AMA National Motocross Series, scored his first overall win of the day in the combined Before The Hill and Up The Hill Pro/Intermediate classes. Huffman jumped out front at the unleashing of the first moto and placed huge ground between himself and a squabble over second place between Yamaha rider Brian Mockridge and Thompson. The two southern Oregon riders went wheel to wheel for much of the moto before it was decided in Thompson's favor, some 14 seconds back of Huffman. Moto two was much the same: Huffman grabbed the lead and remained there to nab his first of two overall wins on the day. Thompson, Mockridge and KTM rider Randy Pekarek trailed Huffman, whose lead 48 NOVEMBER 21,2001 • C U C Byron Young was a twoclass winner in Roseburg, Oregon, posting the Supermini and aocc (9-11) victories. in this moto wasn't as big, due to the shortened race. Thompson headed the Before The Hill portion to snare an overall win behind Up The Hill Proclass winner Huffman, but ahead of Pekarek, who got around Mockridge late in the moto and finished second (3-2), followed by Mockridge (2-3). KTM-mounted Pete Sannan, perhaps the winningest rider in the series thus far, posted his only overall win of the day by topping both combined Before The Hill Junior motos to lead Suzuki rider Robert Wullbrandt and Brock Chappelle into the top three overall. Michael Horban and Scott White rounded out the top five, ahead of the Up The Hill Junior-class winner, Brian Syslo. Huffman then came back to top the 250cc Pro class overall, although when the first moto left the line, the Yamaha rider was still scurrying to get his riding gear on. Huffman found himself with too great of a deficit •• n • _ so - nearly a full lap - to make up. Kevin Rookstool, Mockridge, Scott White and Jason Staley held the top positions, but it was Intermediate rider Rookstool who picked up the firstmoto win, ahead of Mockridge and White. Huffman, the only rider all day long to clear the monstrous downhill double, finished fifth at moto's end. Race Lacey (22) and Kyle Pachmayr (479) dueled during both Schoolboy motos, with the overall going to Lacey, who also won the 125cc Junior class overall. Huffman didn't miss the start the second time out, and the former multi-time AMA National number holder easily dominated to take top money in the Pro portion. White, who was the top placing Pro rider in moto one, was followed by Rookstool, who won overall in the combined Intermediate class. Mockridge and Staley finished second and third overall in the Intermediate portion. Lacey, from nearby Wolf Creek, Oregon, picked up his aforementioned overall Schoolboy and 125cc Junior-class wins via 1- 1 placings in both classes. Riding a Suzuki, Lacey fended off advances from Honda rider Shayne Strigle to top the highly competitive class. Strigle (2-2) and series points leader Sannan (4-3) followed. Suzuki rider Kyle Pachmayr bolted ahead of the second Schoolboy-class moto, giving Lacey another challenge, but Lacey worked past on lap two to finalize his sweep on the day. Pachmayr (2-2) and Travis Ingers (3-3)
