Midwest Challenge Series Round 4: Henry County Fairgrounds Miller, Orr Steal the Sho1N Bv wire to wire, but the remaining positions were fought over by a number of riders for four intense laps. A special "attaboy· goes out to Jerrick Hinson, who rode the wheels off a .Yamaha PW80 to finish a very respectable third in the qualifying heat. Miller easily took the heat win over Brock Moran, Hinson, Bradley Greer and Zachary Thompson. The main event proved to be a continuation of the heat race: KTM ace Miller again gated well and emerged from the first turn with the holeshot. For all intents and purposes, the eight-lap moto was over. Miller methodically pulled away from the field to take a comfortable win. Nevertheless, the rest of the field rode hard and put on a great show for the large crowd on hand. Kaw-boy Moran powered his KX into second place and held on to the finish. Another KTM pilot, Thompson, was not satisfied with his fifth-place finish in the heat and motored to a respectable third. Taylor Erwin, another Kawasaki RANDV SANSOM PARIS, TN, SEPT. 29 he fourth round of the Midwest Challenge Series was held at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Paris, Tennessee, and it brought out more than 225 eager moto-warriors from six states, all ready to do battle. The Paris Dirt Trackers ensured track conditions were perfect; the weather cooperated as well, with temperatures in the mid-60s by the time the evening qualifiers got under way. B-c1ass rider and Suzuki speedster Kenny Dale Orr dominated the 125cc B and Schoolboy classes, while the pride of Franklin, Kentucky, Cody Miller, once again showed the competition the fastest way around the track by taking the 65cc (7-11), 85cc (7 -11) and Supermini wins. In the 65cc (7-11) qualifier, KTM SX 65-mounted Miller dropped the hammer off the gate and flew around the Stadia cross track like a miniature Grant Langston. He simply led from T rider, made his presence known by finishing fourth in the main event after an eighth-place showing in the qualifier. Fifth went to another greenmachine pilot, Paul Ragon. Miller came back on his "big" bike, a Suzuki RM80, to show the bigger guys in the Supermini class and 85cc (7-11) class that the 80-pound Wunderkind is one to watch. Miller led all 12 laps in the 85cc (7-11) and Supermini qualifiers and main events - as well as in the 65cc (7 -11) class - to walk off with six uncontested wins and an armload of trophies. In the 85cc division, Miller took the overall win over Kawasaki rider Austin Wells, who finished third in the qualifier and runnerup in the main. Third overall went to perennial Suzuki front-runner Hunter Inman, fourth to Levi West, and fifth to Nicholas Jackson. In the Supermini contest, Miller blazed to the mainevent win over West, KX80 pilot Steve Kissiar, Yamaha pilot Dennis Allen Crick, and red rider Cody White. Another up-and-coming Suzuki pilot to make a name for himself in the Midwest Challenge Series is Kenny Dale Orr. The racer from Murray, Kentucky, gated well in the combined 125cc A/125cc B qualifier to take the B-c1ass win over A rider Russell Hall and the rest of the agro-pack of 125cc Bracers. When the gate dropped for the main event, Orr put the RM power to the ground and ended up with the lead in the B class. Even though this class is for Intermediates, the B riders are a group of hard chargers who are not afraid to let it hang out in an effort to keep up with the Experts. Orr is no exception, although he also has a dose of Jean-Michel Bayleinspired style mixed in. The main event was fast and furious, with Orr taking the win over an aggressive Jared Arnold, Thumper pilot Kevin Murphy, Keith Wallace and KX rider Shane Kissiar. When the Schoolboy class lined up for the qualifier, Orr gated well and began to pull away from the pack ASAP. The 85cc (12-15) winner, Alex Hunter, gave chase and kept Orr honest, but Orr was in total control throughout the four-lap moto. When the main event left the line, Orr again motored away from the pack, with Hunter, KX125 rider Aaron Thomas and KX80 speedster Steve Kissiar giving chase. This class also put on a good show for the crowd, with Orr taking the win over Hunter, Thomas, Kissiar, Brady Orr (the RM80 racer and younger brother of Kenny Dale), and the lone Honda rider, Cody White. eN Henry County Fairgrounds Paris, Tennessee Results: September 29, 2001 (Round 4) 50 SHAFT: 1.
