Monjaras filled the fourth position, posting a 5-3 score, with Kyle Parks going 7 -4 for fifth. Cycle Ranch first-timer Ricky Garcia came to Floresville and demolished his competition in the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes with more than a half-lap lead. Unfortunately, Garcia crashed hard in the second 80cc Beginner moto, ending his day. Garcia, however, does get credit for the first 80cc Beginner moto victory. Other notable clean-sweep rides were turned in by Erik Hudpohl, Brandon Beabout, Ian Matthews and young 50cc charger Canyon Bingham. CN Cycle boch MX PaJt Flol'1lSYiII., T.x. OBER FLORESVILLE, TX, SEPT. 29-30 ore than 350 racers came down to Floresville to race on the newest national-caliber track in Texas. The facility is sponsored by Yamaha of San Antonio, VP Racing Fuels, Cycle Country, EVS Speed Protection, and Alamo Cycle Plex. Shogun MotorsportsjThorjMotion Motorsports Yamaha-backed Josh Demuth thrilled some 2500 spectators as he took the overall victory in the three-moto-format 125ccj250cc Texas Pro-Am competition. However, his victory did not come easily. National number 17, Robbie Reynard, and his fellow Oklahoma hotshoe Jacob Martin made sure of it. Reynard pulled the first- and second-moto holeshots and won both motos, with Demuth taking a close second in each as well. Unfortunately, Reynard's Cannondale was not raceready for the third and final moto, leaving the battle between Demuth and Pro CircuitjJ-M RacingjMaxxixbacked Taylor Watts. Corpus Christi's Todd "D-Day" Downs was also in the mix, along with Martin, Joe Bailey and Yamaha-mounted Rowdy Flanagan. Demuth went on to win the final Texas Pro moto, followed closely by Watts, who finished out with a 4-4-2 score for second overall. Downs, sponsored by VP Racing Fuels and Spy Eyes, went 5-5-3 for the day, giving him fourth overall. YZ250F-mounted Martin finished third overall, and Bailey was fifth with a 7-6-5 tally. Austin's Flanagan, M 68 NOVEMBER 14, 2001 • Dustin Cantrell and Will Kasson finished sixth, seventh and eighth overall, respectively. Port Lavaca's own Vince Kacir went 14-11-9 for a well-deserved ninth, and Sprint Haynes finished out the top 10 by going 12-12-10. Local fast guy Keith Simmons would also have been in the mix, but he failed to come out for the third moto. Simmons went 9-9 in the first two motos, giving him 12th on the day. Another great battle that went down that day was between Over 40 superstar Kent Howerton and Over 25 Pro Flanagan. Howerton pulled the holeshot in the combined three Expert classes and started to pull away from all the young guns in moto two. Flanagan turned it up a notch and started to reel him in. The crowd was going crazy as the Kasson's Yamaha-backed Flanagiln was all over "The Rhinestone Cowboy." When the duo approached the uphill triple catch fence section, it was time for Flanagan to make his move on the "downhill. Flanagan took over the lead and won the race with Howerton, though each race won his respective class. Country Cycles-backed Keith Simmons won the Over 30 Expert division with a perfect 1-1 tally, followed by Greg Howard, who posted a 2-2 score for second overall. In the largest gate of the day, 20 riders came screaming into the first turn with Jaime Killion leading the charge in the Over 30 Open class. The Quality Tile-sponsored Yamaha rider raced off from the pack for a perfect 1-1 tally, leaving Lawrence cue • e n e _ s 125/250 TX PRO-AM: I. Josh Demuth (Vam); 2. Taylor Wetts (Yam); 3. King Philip 2001: An Enduro Odyssey Wrentham State Forest Madore Scores King Philip Win Bv JOE McLAUGHLIN ~T~,~,SEPT. 16 T rail boss Jim Copeland laid out a typical KP event, taking advantage of all that KP-Land has to offer. A warm-up of a couple of miles through Wrentham State Forest with a sneaky check-in caught no one by surprise. Hans Neff, Raffi Peterson and Jerry Madore all broke out to a quick start, dropping only three minutes in the short section before heading north on Route 1 towards the rocks of Foxboro State Forest. It was in the tight, technical, rocky woods of Foxboro that fate would wreak havoc on Neff. Coming up onto a rock ledge a little too hot made it difficult to navigate the 90degree turn atop the ledge. Try as he might, Neff failed to cut it and crashed, breaking his collar bone in the process. Peterson and Madore raged onward in their battle, posting the fastest scores through the section with five apiece. These two would manage to stay within seconds of each other over the course of the whole day. The day's longest section, back through Wrentham State Forest, gave Madore a slight edge over Peterson. Over nearly 12 miles of everything from the Billy Goat Trail to The Tubes, Madore managed to sneak in under the wire with a 2:58 to Peterson's 3:12. Anthony Geraci wedged himself in between the two with a stellar 3: 10 score at the emergency check-out. A 20-minute layover followed by an 8-mile free territory connecting trail sections gave everyone a little breather before heading into what most would consider the most enjoyable section of the day, the Franklin State Forest loop. At just over 10 miles in length, the section is much less rocky and technical than the trails found in Wrentham and Foxboro. Made up almost entirely of
