dropping one's in sections two and five but fiveing the bothersome exit on number seven. His 12-point total for the day was still low enough to edge Carpenter for second, who turned in an 18-point card for the day. Chaves remained flashy and consistent with his third one-point loop of the day and the round-seven win. "This was a fun event," Chaves said later. "There were very many spectators and the big sections were good for them." David Black finished fourth for the day with 37, while Ron Lee edged Gabe Mizell for fifth. NOTICED ALOT OF NEW FACES ON THE PODIO LATUY? SUNDAY Sunday's sections were less demanding than Saturday's, but were just as spectacular and hundreds of spectators returned to see the top riders put on another extreme riding showcase. Scores were much closer this day, with Chaves taking a slim, one-point win over Carpenter. Commo was just one more point back for third. Chaves seemed unconcerned with the tight competition and continued to amaze the crowd with wheelies and flip-turns in the sections. His only points came on the first loop when he spun on a loose rock and took a two. Carpenter finished with a threepoint total, which came as three single-point rides. Commo had a similar day with four one-point rides. Former Oklahoma Champ Gabe Mizell finished fourth with nine and Nebraska's Jeremy Cox rounded out the top five with 20. eN 21 RD 22 2 PLACES 3 ND PLACES The balance of power has shifted. All of a sudden, the tire war in supercross and motocross has a new player: Michelin. During the 2001 season, Michelin" tires won nearly a third of all main events at AMA supercross and outdoor nationals - and that's all the more remarkable when you consider that Michelin"-€quipped teams comprised less than 20% of the factory-supported riders at any given race. Of course, if 2002 is anything like 2001, we don't expect that will be the case much longer. Pensacola Dam Disney, Oklahoma Resuhs:DctoberZO-Zl,ZOOl Saturday C'SHIP: 1. Dovld Chove. (She) 3; 2.
