AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series Round 2: Lake Whitney MX one way while his bike cartwheeled another. Upshaw took the lead, followed by Hale, Bonner and Scotty Trimble. St. Cyr had a decent start but never came down from the mountain; it was later discovered that a bad get-off had resulted in a wrist injury. Doughty rejoined in seventh, and he was third by moto's end. Upshaw finished eight seconds ahead of runner-up Hale and Doughty, in third. eN lake Whitney MX Whitney, Texas Results: September 29-30, 2001 [Round 21 (Above left) Kyle Cunningham (622) and Jeffrey Fisher (43) battled from start to finish in the 65cc (10-11) contest. (Above) Jackie Hudson, just off a great season in the AMA WML Outdoor National Series with the number-four plate, won the Ladies Open event at Lake Whitney MX. (Lettl James Marshall won the three of his four events, taking the 125cc Open, 250Cc Open and 250cc B overall wins in Whitney, Texas. BY KAT SPANN AND ALICIA CLARK PHOTOS BY CONNIE JOHNSON WHITNEY, TX, SEPT. 29·30 TTyie Cunningham prevailed as the k top winner on Saturday during round two of the sixth annual Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Fall Classic Series. James Marshall headlined Sunday's program with three overall class wins. The growth of the series has mandated a two-day race event, and the fact that 804 riders entered the event justified it. Dean Lane once again prevailed as the fastest Vet racer at the Lake Whitney facility, winning both the Over 25 and Over 30 A events, while young Cobra rider Caleb Dowell ruled the Pee Wee events, taking the win in Saturday's 51cc (4-6) and Sunday's 51 cc Open contests. Marshall first won the 250cc B class, then scored the 125cc Open and 250cc Open victories. A hard toss-off in the second 125cc B moto and bike injuries incurred in the tumble cost Marshall a good overall finish, despite his first-moto win. Kyle Cunningham took four moto wins in Saturday's 65cc (10-11) and 85cc (7-11) contests, in addition to a respectable fifth place in Sunday's 85-112cc Open class. Cunningham snared the first 65cc (10-11) moto holeshot, chased by Jeffrey Fisher. Both riders immediately began to outdistance the other 17 opponents, leaving David Wood in third, followed by Cory Perdue and Hunter Hewitt. Fisher kept Cunningham honest, closing the gap on each lap by doubling through the whoops. Cunningham refused to relinquish the lead and took the win. Hewitt finished third, having passed Wood on lap three, followed by Wood and Perdue. Cunningham got the holeshot in the second moto but lost his lead momentarily to Fisher. Cunningham regained the lead on the first lap, and another cat-and-mouse moto ensued between the two. Wood gated third 58 OCTOBER 31, 2001 • cue again, holding his position throughout the race, followed by Hewitt and Corey Self. Marshall took the first 250cc B moto holeshot, with Clayton Miller in the hunt. Both riders raced hot and fast, with Miller knocking at Marshall's back door until it opened and then making the pass for the lead. It went down to the checkers, flag as both riders put in their best effort, with Miller taking the win by a knobby. The second-moto holeshot went to Marshall, wi~ Miller once again in the wings. Miller made a couple of errors on the first lap, which allowed J.J. Pecsok and Tyson Brown to get around him for second and third. Pecsok caught up to Marshall and they put some distance on the pack. Adam Turner worked his way to third after battling briefly with Bradley Mikolas. James Willingham and Miller followed. Marshall collected the overall win via a 2-1 punch to Pecsok's 4-2 for second and Miller's 1-5 for third. Eleven women took off in their first moto, with Jackie Hudson leading. Wendy Dial gated second, followed by Taryn Covington and Shelly Dixon. Jessica McCollum started in fifth but went down on lap two, surrendering the position to Katie Hutson. Hudson led off the gate in moto two, with Covington at her rear wheel. •• n __ lIS Covington edged by Hudson briefly, but Hudson countered back and retook the lead and then held it for the remainder. Dial passed Covington for second. Dixon raced in fourth, followed by Angie Stephen and Hutson, with no further positions changes. Jason Upshaw returned to racing and did it in style as he sliced and diced his way to both 250cc A moto wins. Ryan St. Cyr got the first-moto holeshot, with Upshaw breathing down his airbox for two laps. Upshaw cut under St. Cyr at the top of lap three at the exit of the infield bowl turn from the Dolly Single. St. Cyr took the inside line into the tower sweeper and passed Upshaw, but Upshaw found more throttle at the exit and retook the lead. St. Cyr jumped past Upshaw in the next section, only to have Upshaw pass him back at the foot of the mountain horseshoe turn. Nathan Hale and Shane Doughty battled over third. Doughty passed Hale at the top of the mountain midway through lap three, and the front four set the pace for the remainder. Meanwhile, Upshaw tripled his way through the rockers to gradually gain a second or two on St. Cyr and take the win. Doughty grabbed the holeshot in moto two, chased by Upshaw, Hale and Dennis Bonner. Doughty held the lead through the first lap but cased the final rocker jump when he attempted to triple and cartwheeled LOS OPEN; 1. J8cqueline Hudson (Hon); 2. Wendy Dial (Hon); 3.
