White Brothers Four-Stroke Challenge three positions on the eighth of what ended up being 11 laps (though only 10 were scheduled), finishing sixth on the track and being credited with fifth after Smith's penalty (got that?). Decker was a strong second, and third was credited to Morgan's fellow Canadian Marco Dube, on a KTM. MOT02 BY STEVE Cox PHOTOS BY STEVE BRUHN LAS VEGAS, NV, OCT. 12·13 lthough it was rather chilly inside the Grand Garden Arena on Friday night, seven-time Snowcross Champion Blair Morgan started out hot - probably both figuratively and literally, since he's accustomed to racing in below-freezing conditions and he stayed that way. Morgan rode his brand-new Honda CRF450R to dominating performances in the first three motos of the weekend, then rode cautiously in the fourth to clinch. the four-stroke title in his and Honda's first-ever appearances in the event. A Decker in his first ride for Mach 1 Motorsports, but the start left some early favorites on the ground in turn one, including defending champ Kelly Smith and Moto XXX's Kyle Lewis. "I had a really bad gate pick and had to start from the outside," Smith said. "I got a good jump, and I was coming into [the first turn] equal with some of the guys on the inside, but they ended up sliding wide, and it pushed me right off the track over into the next lane." Smith would eventually work his way back up to third but was later docked a lap for cutting the track, as he restarted the race from the "next MOTO 1 lane" - significantly shortening his first lap. Meanwhile, Morgan started second The first holeshot of the weekend was taken by Yamaha-mounted Craig and went by Decker on the second go-around. Although Decker stayed close enough to challenge for much Morgan used a good inside-gate pick to grab a clean holeshot and led from the start of the less-confusing second race, and he never relinquished the lead. He began pulling away from second-placed starter Keith S. Johnson, also on a CRF450R, from the start. Lewis started fifth, and on lap five of 10 he passed Johnson for second and set sail for Morgan, but Morgan was riding smooth and consistent out front. By lap eight, though, Lewis had caught Morgan and was hounding the Canuck, but coming to the white flag, Lewis fell trying to pass the erstwhile leader and was relegated to fourth where he'd finish.
