The opening came on the third lap when Koch went down, his front wheel washing out over a rut, leaving Abell to take the lead in the heavy mud. In the second moto, Abell assumed the opening position. He and Koch went back and forth over the tabletop. Abell charged hard and took the position, pulling it out in the turn before the stepover. Kyle L~val ley put in a good challenge against Koch for second but went down over the whoops section, giving third to Mike Morgan., who then pulled off the track on the last lap. Abell didn't waiver, scoring a perfect 1-1 tally for the day. eN WMN: 1. Kirsten Banke (Yam); 2. Sarah Bazin (Kow). 51: 1. Michael Miller (Yam); 2. Connor Henderson (Yam); 3. Chris Mena (Yam); 4. Action in the 125cc A class followed the same script, with Thompson sweeping both motos. Both the 125cc and 250cc classes were combined AlB races. Track announcer John Davidson took the overall win in the 250cc B division, and Brian Robertson took his C R125 to the 125cc B win. Racing in the Mini classes was exciting, as each class held nearly a full gate. In addition to Ragsdale's impressive wins in the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini contests, strong performances were noted in the other small-bore classes as well. Mill Creek's rider-friendly layout is popular with the Mini riders, and every moto featured exciting action. Another double-class winner was young Drew Fields, who took top honors in both the 50cc Shaft class and the 50cc (4-6) class. Hunter Mims followed up a win in the 50cc (7-8) class with a strong third in the 65cc STEVE AND PEGGY CORLEE Pill CITY, AL, SEPT. 9 amaha-mounted Josh Thompson proved unbeatable in A-class competition at Mill Creek Motocross, taking top honors in both the 250cc and 125cc divisions. The shy, likable youngster led nearly every lap on the day, despite challenges from fellow YZ pilots Gary Sudduth and Tim Castrone. In the Mini classes, an equally impressive performance by KXmounted James Ragsdale resulted in wins in both the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes. Domination seemed to be the theme for the day, as several other riders took doubleclass wins. Mill Creek hosted round three of the Alabama Fall Series this month and a large crowd was on hand. Perfect weather and great track conditions greeted the riders and their families, and racing action was top-notch all day. Thompson took charge at the drop of the gate in the first 250cc A moto and was not headed again all day. (7-9) division. The win in that group went to KX-mounted Wesley Ethridge. In the 80cc classes, KX-mounted Nick Jones enjoyed great success, nearly equaling Ragsdale's performance. Jones took the win in the 80cc (7-11) contest but just missed netting the Pre-Teen win, following YZ-mounted Jacob Holsonbach home to take second. Holsonbach finished second to Jones in the 80cc (7-11) class. The 85cc (14-15) contest was an all-Yamaha af.fair, with Mark Shadix, Jesse Fanning and Blake Massey going one-two-three. The turnout in the Vet classes was large, as usual. Mill Creek's fun, safe design is very popular among the old guys. Honda-mounted Troy Miller, who is the promoter of Ironman MX in Warrior, Alabama, proved to be an Ironman him:>elf. After a strong showing in the 125cc and 250cc A classes, Miller elected to compete in the Over 25 and Over 30 classes, for a total of eight motos for the day. Miller took the overall in the Over 30 class and backed that up with a third place in the Over 25 class. The win in that class went to CR-mou.nted Joey Hargrove. Not to be outdone by his son Hunter's win in the 50cc (7-8) class, Michael Mims put his YZ out front in the Over 35 class, and a hard-charging Bill Matthews took the win in the Over 40 class.
