Shelby Supercross: Darrell Driver steamrolled the 250cc and Unlimited C classes at round
14 of the Rollercoaster Racing Tour Supercross Series in Shelby, North carolina.
llaults: 5eptember 8, 2881 lllound 141
into the Rollercoaster Series lead by a
single point over Jeff Davis, who had
a disappointing night. A qualifier
crash left Davis simply finishing, and
while he had a good ride in the main
event, his fourth place wasn't good
enough to keep him in front for the
points chase. However, with two
rounds left, this contest will be interesting to watch.
The action in the 125cc C class
was wild and woolly, with Brady the
most consistent top-five finisher
(double wins is pretty consistent),
and Thor/Michelin/Kawasaki of
Statesville/Ba rr' s Competition's
Shane Kendrick (2-3) of Hickory,
North Carolina, and Driver (3-4) the
next-most consistent. Dal-Kawa/
Cycle Center/Strange Racing! Hamrick Insurance's Charlie Hamrick of
Boiling Springs, North Carolina,
another woods rider, was squeezed
out on the qualifier start and only had
time to work up to sixth before the
three laps ended. Hamrick's main
event went better, and he stayed on
Brady's fender the entire time to finish runner-up.
Special mention must be made of
Justin Hopson of Kings Mountain,
North Carolina, who competed for the
first time aboard a 125cc machine in
the 125cc C class. The KawasakiSuzuki of Gastonia racer rode to 11 th
aboard Justin Falls' Yamaha and, incidentally, won both the Senior Mini and
Supermini contests in heated battles
with his teammate Brad Hinson.
