Pro Circuit Regional Classic Series Round 1: Swan Cycle Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CONNIE JOHNSON TYlER, TX, SEPT. 8-9 he fifth annual Pro Circuit Regional Classic Series kicked off at Swan Cycle Park, with more than 800 riders from surrounding states showing up for the fun and competition. Caleb Dowell left no doubt as to who was the best Pee Wee rider in the 4- to 6-year old age group. He put his Cobra out front early, making the pass on fellow Cobra rider Tanner Neujahr by the third turn. Never looking back, Dowell held his position all the way to the checkers, with Neujahr and Polini pilot Tyler Stewart trailing. In moto two, Stewart absconded with the holeshot, but Dowell put on a repeat performance, passing Stewart before turn three and taking off. Stewart held on to finish second, followed by Cobra tamer Dawson Draycott. The racing was close in the 85cc (7 -11) class. The top five were well matched, making for an exciting race. In moto one, Sean Hackley put his Kawasaki in first, followed by to< rider Trey Canard, Yamaha-mounted Chad Bryant, and Kawasaki jockeys Kyle Cunningham and Marshall Smith. Moto two was a "bike" of a different color. Hackley got the holeshot, with Canard stuck to his back fender, but by the beginning of lap two, Cunningham had gotten between them, with Smith and Bryant not far behind. Cunningham sneaked into first just before the beginning of the white-flag lap, and Smith passed Canard. As the checkers came out, Cunningham had a nice lead on Hackley, with Smith, Canard and Bryant in tow. Jesse Moore showed the 125cc Intermediate class that his Yamaha could get off the gate the fastest, as he garnered both holeshots. In moto one, he had someone rubbing his back plastic - it was Robbie Smith, on a Yamaha, and Kawasaki jockey James Marshall. Marshall passed Smith before he even got through the whoops and made short work of Moore within the next few turns. Smith was paying attention, though, and made the same move on Moore that Marshall had made on him the previous lap, passing Moore for second in the whoops on lap two. Moore regained second when Smith went down on lap three. Aaron Smith took third, with Derek Kemp and Clayton Miller following. Moto two was a rerun of moto one, with the exception of J.J. Pecsok putting his Honda into the mix and making Marshall work for first place. T lap of the first Over 40 moto, with Howard coming out on top. Mark Lamb was third, with Darwin Huckabee and Marshall Turman not far behind. Rakestraw came out on top by the end of lap one of moto two, but Howard wouldn't settle for second place, and Rakestraw eventually succumbed to Howard's assault, and after a back-and-forth battle he placed for second. Lamb, Bobby Meche and Tom Hudson rounded out the top five, just 20 seconds behind Howard and Rakestraw. eN (RlglrtI Josh Demuth was on the gas as the Pro Circuit Regional Classic Series kicked off at Swan Cycle Partt, winning both 125cc A motos hands down. (Below) Caleb Dowell did everything right in Tyler, Texas, taking the 50cc (4-61 victory. Swan Cycle PaJ1l Tyler, Texas Resu~: Moore, Smith and Miller rounded out the top five. In the first 250cc Beginner moto, Honda man Travis McWilliams got the jump, only to be passed halfway through lap one by Yamaha-mounted Shane Goode. McWilliams must have gone down shortly after that, because he charged after Goode into a back section of the track and didn't come out until most of the pack had emerged. Ronny Gibson moved his Yamaha into second after Rusty Welch did a vanishing act on the last lap, and McWilliams managed to make it back up to fourth, with Travis Goss in front and Chase Kirk behind. David Smith got a nice holeshot on his CR in moto two but was overtaken by the mob before he made it to the whoops. Goode took over the lead again, with McWilliams following in second. In the last few seconds of the race, Goss made a gutsy charge and passed for second, with Gibson fol- lowing suit. McWilliams had to settle for another fourth, and Matt Allen moved his Suzuki into fifth. Seventeen 250cc Expert riders lined up for moto one, with the majority of them having just recently turned Expert. Of course, the dominant racer was, far and away, Josh Demuth, who is not new to the Pro scene. Demuth put his Yamaha out front in both motos and took it all the way to the checkers. On the gas and coming from the back of the pack were Shane Doughty and Colt Humphrey, making spectacular passes on their way to finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Nathan Hale and Coy Hobgood. Demuth again dominated in moto two, with Doughty pulling off a second after a better start. Joey Pratt had a better second moto, finishing third, followed by Hale and Hobgood.
