CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series Round 9: Albany Motorsports Park Intermediate classes, and Supermini and 80cc Junior (12-13) winner Ajay Olinger. Huege won both 125cc Intermediate motos but came up short in the first Before The Hill Intermediate moto, ruining what could have been a perfect day when he developed ignition problems; Justin Jensen won. Huege came back to dominate moto two to finalize hjs sweep. Olinger beat Yamaha rider Aaron McClinton in his two 80cc-c1ass victories. Pete Sannan has won the 125cc and Before the Hill Junior classes at nearly every round of the series, and on this day he was well on his way to doing the same, but a crash while leading the second Before The Hill Junior moto derailed Sannan's plans for a sweep. The KTM/Troy Lee/Pro Caliber/DeMarini-backed rider from Brush Prairie, Washington, decimated the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes, despite tough competition from several local KTM speedsters in both classes. Currier crushed the competition in his four-for-four win tally. Gared Steinke and Jared Wood had been the cream of the crop in the 60cc classes for the past two seasons, but Wood has since moved up to the 80cc class and Steinke, coming off a recent arm injury, was no match for Currier on this day. Currier shot into the lead in both 60cc Open motos and remained there to the finish - some 10 seconds ahead of his closest competition - to card his first of two overall wins on the day. Kawasaki-mounted Danny Gubser and Steinke trailed Currier in both motos, but it was Steinke netting second overall via his runner-up finish to Currier in moto two. Gubser (3-2), Travis McClinton (5-4) and Tyler McClinton (4-5) rounded out the top five overall. In the adjoined 50cc Open class, KTM rider Chris Aldredge hammered the competition to snare a 1-1 sweep, ahead of Husky-mounted Nash ~Iaylock (2-2) and Polini riders Sierra Bragg (3-3), Tanner Berry (4-4) and Garrett Christofferson (5-5). Currier, who was on his way to an overall win at the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National in the 50cc class until he tangled with a lapped rider on the final lap of moto two, did similar damage while taking his 60cc Senior (9-11) win. Currier polished off the competition in both motos to nab the class win, ahead of Gubser (2-3) and Travis McClinton. McClinton placed second to Currier in moto two, but a sixth-place finish in moto one left him third overall with 6-2 tally. Wood (4-4) finished fourth overall, ahead of Steinke (3-5). Kawasaki rider Steele Angie-Davidson won the combined 60cc Junior (6-8) class, ahead of Dakota Smith. There were several other two-class overall winners as well, including Ryan Huege, who won the 125cc Intermediate and Before The Hill D 40 OCTOBER 17,2001 • a U c competition in his two 125cc Junior motos, beating Jimi Blackwell and Nick Clarno, but things took a turn for the worse in the Before The Hill class with his aforementioned crash. Sannan won mota one, but Blackwell, who won moto two, won overall on a 3-1 tally. Nick Randklev placed second via 2-2 consistency, while Sannan salvaged third via 1-3 finishes. Former AMA National rider Gary Beyer made a rare appearance pay off with his 1-1 sweep of the Over 30 Pro class. The KTM-mounted Beyer had Honda-mounted David Germain to contend with in the early portions of both motos, but Beyer worked past Germain to win by large margins. Beyer (1-1) led Germain (2-2) and Yamaha-mounted Ed Smith, who was the top-placing Expert-class rider, at the finish. KTM rider Jason Smith (3-3) finished third in the Pro class, trailing Smith but finishing ahead of Dave Fox (4-4) and Joe Casey (5-5). One of the largest fields of Women's-c1ass cQmpetitors was on hand, but it was central Oregon's Rhiana Stenzel who won overall. This greatly aided Stenzel in winning moto two, as well as the overall, with a 2-1 tally. Trailing Stenzel were Jennifer Waibel (3-2) and Leslie Mott (4-3). Yamaha-mounted Gerritt Schaffer was a double-class winner, topping the Four-Stroke and 250cc Intermediate classes, both with 1-1 sweeps. Husaberg rider Michael Hutcheson gave Schaffer a great deal of competition in both Four-Stroke motos, but in the end it was all Schaffer.
