AMA/Yamaha Western Four-Stroke National MX Series Round 10: Two Rivers Raceway By and went over the bars, got the wind knocked out of me, and knew I had to soldier on." The crash relegated Walters to the back of the pack. Walters mounted a desperate charge and worked his way back to finish 15th. He has podiumed six times, posted 16 top-five finishes, and holds the most moto wins, at nine. The battle between Woods and Walters will go down to the final moto in Floresville, Texas, on September 30. This will be a double-points round for all in attendance, after the cancellation of round 11 in Kahoka, Missouri, due to the terrorist attacks on the United States. It's been quite a storm for the third- and fourth-place positions this year. Beaudry Motorsports KTM/ Thor/Jak-Bakz-sponsored National number six, Jimmy LaMastus, and Husaberg USA/Nu- Tec Race Fuelssponsored Ryan Terlecki have kept within five points of each other in the last three rounds. LaMastus secured the runner-up spot on the podium at Milliken with his 5-1 tally. His morning was extremely chaotic, as he broke his shock in the final practice session and then worked with Derek Currie to disassemble his KTM 520 so LaMastus could use that. "We all work together, and Derek's motor was blown, and he had another bike to race," LaMastus explained. "Derek had a Factory R&D shock for DON SCHNEIDER PHOTOS BY ROCKY PACE M1LUKEN, CO, AGG. 26 ational number five, Nathan Woods - aboard his YZ426F backed by Yamaha Powerhouse, Toaste Motorsports, Maxima Racing Oils and Troy Lee Designs - moved closer to a thumper championship title after a hard-fought 2-2 overall win at round 10 of the sixth annual AMA/Yamaha Motor Corporation Western Four-Stroke National Motocross Series. Woods has stood atop the podium seven times, won five motos, and finished with 18 topfive finishes in the series. With this feat, Wo,?ds regains the championship points-chase lead over Spud Walters, 400-391. White Brothers/Yamaha USAf O'Neal/VP Racing Fuels' Walters, National number two, certainly remains the number-one conrender. After his first-moto win, Walters was actually seven points ahead of Woods heading into moto two, but after the start, Walters - who was running in the fourth-place position - attempted a pass on Pro Vans-backed Kip Sandell. "We were really flying down the rolling back section and Kip had been railing the outside around the far lefthander," smiled Walters. "I was committed to the inside, and as he came out of the corner, I hit his swingarm N (Left) Walters (2' wants the number-one plate for White Brothers and Yamaha USA. At Two Rivers Raceway in Milliken, Colorado, LaMastus finished second and Terlecki finished third. his KTM 520, so after Tim Beatty, Troy Fichtelman and I compressed the spring, we got it all assembled in time for moto one. It was a tough moto, but we got' the sucker dialed for the second moto, and I won it, so I'm very happy and can say [that] only in the Four-Stroke Nationals could this happen. I walked away with second overall and $875 because I got Derek Currie's shock. Thanks to everyone." Terlecki finished third overall "fter his consistent 3-4 posting. Coincidentally, LaMastus and Terlecki have each stood atop the podium six times. Terlecki has ~ 5 top-five finishes and LaMastus has had 13. The fjfth spot in the championship title chase has been held since round one by Vickery Motorsports Yamaha of Colorado/Enzo Suspension/Cortez Trucking's Kip Sandell. He has podiumed only once, but he has had eight top-five finishes. Closing in on Sandell (and now, at 272, only 10 points behind)has been ALF Racing/Moto Pro Yamaha-backed Tim Beatty, who has been atop the podium twice and also has had eight topfive finishes. Rounding out the top ten are JM Racing/Spy Eyes Optics-sponsored Todd Downs, with one podium and five top-five placements; cousins Brian and D.J. Sweany, who are backed by O'Neal Azonic and Shock Therapy, and who have been inside the top 10 10 different times; and Craig Davis, who sits in 10th, just a couple points eN behind and on the bubble.
