CMC Trans-Cal Nationals, Pacific Northwest Region Round 1: Albany Motorsports Park 5-3 score. Kadell (4-4) and Leach (3-5) filled out the top five overall. The 125cc Pro class wasn't as easy for Laughridge, as Corder put pressure on the Californian from the drop of the gate to the wave of the checkered flag. Just as in the previous motos, it went in favor of Laughridge, who narrowly edged the Pro Circuit/Team Green/Shoei-backed Corder. Laughridge, who recently had a top-five overall finish at Loretta Lynn's, bolted to the head of the field in the second moto and then vanished. Corder got off to a bad start but picked off Yamaha rider Matt STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT ALBANY,OR,AOG.26 T he competitors in the Professional classes have become very familiar with the number-109-plated Suzuki of Californian Evan Laughridge this summer in the Pacific Northwest. On this day, they got another bird's-eye view of the rider from the Golden State as Laughridge posted a doubleclass decimation at the opening round of the CMC Trans-Cal Nationals at Albany Motorsports Park. Laughridge, riding the N-Style/ Thor/Independent Race Shop/Posey Racing/FMF-backed Suzukis, won the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes to notch his name among the select few double-class winners at the series opener. Laughridge had his hands full with Team Green's Mike Corder in both classes, but Corder was left with a pair of second-place finishes overall at the end of the day, via 2-2 placings. Filling out the podium in the two Professional classes were Ryan Metzler (in the 125cc class) and rookie Pro Tyler Fick (in the 250cc class). KTM-backed Will Wallace also netted a double whammy with wins in the Four-Stroke and 250cc Intermediate classes, both coming with 1-1 tallies. The rider from Redmond, Oregon, overcame poor starts in the 250cc Intermediate class - coming from dead last in moto one - to finalize his sweep after two convincing Four-Stroke-class victories. Finishing second overall in the 250cc Intermediate class was Washington's Kenny Webster with 2-2 placings, ahead of local Yamaha rider Eric Rogers (4-4). Yamaha-mounted Ryan Leach has had phenomenal success on his home track over the years, but even with all of the track time, he couldn't stop Laughridge's progress. Leach pressured Laughridge for several laps in the first 250cc Pro moto but eventually faded to third at moto's end. Laughridge broke free from Leach in the early stages and then amassed a large lead by the finish. Corder got around Leach on the final lap to finish second to the Suzuki rider but ahead of Leach, Keith Kadell and Fick. In moto two, Laughridge and Corder stayed in close quarters, but it was Laughridge who held off Corder's challenges to net a moto victory, capping off his 1-1 sweep of the class. Corder, who finished sixth overall in the 250cc class recently at Loretta Lynn's, nabbed second overall, while Fick finished third after getting around a stalled Leach late in the moto, which was good for third overall on a 56 OCTOBER 10. 2001 • (Left) Kawasaki-mounted Oregonian Mike Corder finished second overall In both the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes at Albany Motorsports Part<. Williams, Kadell, Fick and finally Metzler to settle into second, but he couldn't narrow the gap to Laughridge, the overall winner. In the combined 125cc Intermediate class, Oregon's Ryan Huege was a double-moto winner. Ryan Thompson pressured Huege from start to fmish in moto one, but Huege was too much for the competition in moto two, thus garnering the overall win after earlier also winning the Before The Hill Intermediate class. Thompson (2-2) and Washington's Webster (3-3) trailed overall. Washington riders Ryan Villopoto and Josh Hill have steadily become among the top five 85cc riders in the country. On this day, the diminutive speedsters went wheel to wheel in the 85cc Junior (12-13) and Supermini classes, but it was the Yamaha-mounted Villopoto who came away with overall wins in both classes. KTM rider Pete Sannan also performed a double-class decimation. The rider from Albany, Oregon, scored convincing 1-1 victories in the Before The Hill and 125cc Junior classes. Sannan topped all of the combined Intermediate riders in his sweep of the Before The Hill class, where he trailed only Four-Strokeclass winner Wallace. Suzuki rider Adam Metzler finished second to San- cue •• n • .,., s nan in both classes with 2-2 placings.
