GFI Racing Fall Series South Round 2: Perris Raceway (Above) Garrett Taylor (809) picked up the 125cc Novice-class overall on a 3·1 day in Pents, Califomia. (Below) Justin Mulford topped both the 80cc Intennecliate and Supennlnl clas. .s at the second round of the GFl Racing Fall Series South. By GREG ROBERTSON PERRIS, CA, SEPT. 9 T yler Duncan and Justin Mulford were unbeatable at round two of the GFI Racing/Goat Eyewear/Boyesen/Fox/FMF/Pro Circuit-sponsored Fall Series. Duncan turned a couple of excellent starts aboard his YZ 125 into runaway victories in both 125cc Intermediate motos, while CR80mounted Mulford swept both the 80cc Intermediate and Supermini classes. In the first 125cc Intermediate moto, Duncan emerged with the early lead over Shane Kelley, Donnie Weber, Tyson Burmeister, c.J. Mahon and the rest of the pack. Kelley hounded Duncan throughout lap one before taking over the top spot, only to lose his front end in a turn shortly thereafter and find himself near the back of the field. By lap three, Duncan had five seconds on Weber, and he more than doubled that gap by the checkers. Third place belonged to Burmeister for the entire race. Kelley charged back up to fourth, only to have his bike quit, handing the position to Juan Diego Saffon, who crossed the finish ahead of David Sullins and Anthony Bruscella. Chase Meineke won the race to the first turn in moto two, with Burmeister, Duncan, Bruscella and Mahon giving chase. Duncan quickly got around Burmeister, then nipped Meineke in a series of large whoops to take the lead with just one lap completed. Once out front, Duncan increased his lead with each passing lap for a most convincing sweep of the class. For a while, Burmeister had his hands full with Meineke, Saffon and Bruscella, but he pulled away during the final circuit to go 3-2 for second overall. Bruscella's 6-3 finished got the better of Saffon's 4-5 for fourth, with Weber going 2-8 to round out the top five. Mulford ran away from his competition in the first 80cc Intermediate lAbove) The 125cc Intermedlate cla_ 1 _ the line for moto _ . Tyler Duncan (388) _nt 1-1 for the win at Perris Raceway. (Below) Corey Murphy (728) and Blake Thorpe (2Sl7) this close for most of the second 250cc Intennecliate moto. Murphy held off Thorpe for the win. kept a determined Thorpe at bay for the final three laps to earn the overall win. Brian MacAfee (4-3) edged out Mahon (5-3) for third. Cobra-mounted Colt Hubbs continues to rule the 50cc ranks. He split moto wins with Dillon Trotter for the SOcc (7-8) class win, then went 1-1 for the 50cc Open-class overall honors as well. Carlos Don was third both times out in the 50cc (7-8) class and went 43 for second overall in the Open class, topping the 2-6 tally of Trotter. YZ250F pilot Rick Schaffner ran off with the opening 125cc Novice moto win, ahead of Mark Hall and Garrett Taylor. Schaffner led lap one of moto two before Taylor took over out front. Taylor motored on to win the moto and the overall as a bobble dropped Schaffner to a 12th-place finish and sixth overall. Franklin Ziegler (4-2) collected the secondplace trophy, over Hall (2-5) and Ryan Cowell (6-6). CN Perris Raceway Perris, Califan1il1 lInalts: $eptnlber S, 2011 llleuad 2J _re 50 (4-6): 1. Bohrer and Matt Elliott settled into a moto-Iong battle over the runner-up position that saw Elliott ultimately prevail on the last lap. Round two was more of the same, as Mulford put his Honda of Houston/Etnies/FMF-sponsored Honda out front on lap one and never looked back. Bohrer got the upper hand over Elliott this time out to collect the second-place trophy. Nick Valdez went 3-4 for fourth over Danny Gonzalez. Mulford faced his toughest challenge of the day during the first Supermini moto when Valdez chased him down by the midway point of the race. Valdez dogged Mulford all the way to the checkers, making him work for the win. Elliott held down third for most of the moto before a bobble dropped him to a seventhplace finish. Bohrer inherited third in the end, ahead of James Turner and Justin Carmody. The second moto was all Mulford's, as Valdez tangled with another rider on lap one and restarted dead last. Bohrer held off Elliott for second place and second overall. Valdez worked all the way back to fifth for third overall, over Turner (4-4) and Elliott (7-3). Tim Beatty was untouchable during the one-shot, 20-minute 250cc Pro moto on his Alf Racing/Moto ProfAcerbis/Motul-backed YZ426F, finishing some 25 seconds ahead of Mike Sleeter. KTM-mounted Steve Drew did a good job of holding off Brandon Schlensig during the final laps for third. Beatty and Sleeter returned to do battle in the single 125cc Pro moto, with Beatty again taking the win. Sleeter put up a good fight and after 20 laps was only a bike length behind Beatty at the finish. Cody Knauss claimed third, ahead of Schlensig. Mahon led the first few laps of the opening 250cc Intermediate race before Blake Thorpe dived underneath him to run out front. Thorpe continued on for the win, but not without a fight from Cory Murphy, who moved up to challenge but couldn't find a way around. Mahon duplicated his great start in round two, only to have Murphy slice under him on lap three. Thorpe was around Mahon a short time later and quickly reeled in Murphy.
