CMC Northwest Summer Series Round B: Albany Motorsports Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT ALBANY,OR,AOG.25 K awasaki-mounted Northwesterners Mike Corder and Joshua Hill both made their presence felt at round eight of the CMC Northwest Summer Series, held at the Albany Motorsports Park. Corder trailed Californian Evan Laughridge in the 125cc Pro class but came back to reverse the order in the 250cc-c1ass overall. Hill, who recently won the 85cc Stock (7 -11) class at the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals, posted wins in the 80cc (12-13) and Supermini classes. Corder and the Suzuki-mounted Laughridge have gone wheel to wheel all summer long in the Professional classes in Oregon and Washington, but this time it was a draw at the end of the day: Corder trailed Laughridge in both 125cc Pro-class motos to take home the second-place money; Corder turned the tables in the 250cc class, as he took advantage of a crash on Laughridge's part in moto one to snare a win and then trailed the Californian in moto two to win the overall with a 1-2 punch. The clashes between Hill and Ryan Villopoto on the local level have been equally as exceptional as the CorderLaughridge battles this summer. On this day, Hill had the upper hand on the highly regarded Villopoto, as the rider from LaCenter, Washington, captured two overall wins. Hill's first came in the Supermini class, in which he beat Villopoto in both motos. ViI- (Above) Oregon's Mike Corder scored the overall win In the 250cc Pro class at round eight of the CMC Northwest Summer Serfes. lopoto (2-2) and Shawn Haberlock (3-3) followed. In the 80cc (12-13) class, Hill and Villopoto traded moto wins, but it was Hill topping the second moto to finalize his sweep, again trailed by Villopoto and Haberlock. KTM rider Pete Sannan was the cream of the crop in the Before The Hill Junior and 125cc Junior classes. The 14-year-old from Albany won all four motos he contested. In the 125cc Junior class, Sannan led Suzuki rider Adam Metzler in moto one. Sannan came from well behind in moto two to ished second overall. Team Green's Corder captured the overall win. Laughridge (4-1), Fick (2-3), Kadell (3-6) and Ryan Leach (5-5) trailed. Yamaha-mounted Washingtonian Michael Biddle rode his potent Yamaha YZ250F to a win in the 125cc Beginner class, leading Honda rider Jeremy Secondo, Brett Abernathy, and Suzuki riders John Duran and Seth Parrott into the top positions. CN overtake Metzler and finalize hjs 1-1 sweep. Metzler (2-2), Nick Randklev (3-3), Jimi Blackwell (4-4) and Jonathan McGillivray (6-5) trailed the Gran Prix-backed Sannan. Sannan used a similar tally to also top the Before The Hill Junior class. Sannan's closest competition again came from Metzler, who finished second overall twice in a two-class quest. Blackwell, Yamaha rider Heath Voegele and McGillivray completed the top five overall finishers. Honda-mounted Ryan Huege hammered the competition in his doublemoto romp of the Before The Hill Intermediate class. Huege dominated the first of two 125cc Intermediate-class motos and was well on his way to a two-class decimation, but the overall win slipped from his grasp while leading moto two. Huege bailed off hard with just under a lap to go, allowing Marc Miller-Jones to capture a moto win, which was good for the overall. Huege was slow to remount and went 1-4, ahead of Trevor Brooks (4-2). Huege's Before The Hill win came ahead of Thompson and Justin Jensen. "It went from 'Oh, wow, he's going to win two classes' to 'Oh no, we're going to the emergency room,'" recalled Huege's mom, Tami. The Professional classes were the best they've been all season long (with the exception of the Pac West Series). Corder and Laughridge fought it out for the top money in two classes. Laughridge, however, held the advantage by virtue of better starts and went 1-1 for a win in 125cc action. Corder (2-2), first-year Pro Tyler Fick (3-3), Ryan Metzler (5-4) and Keith Kadell (4-5) trailed. Things didn't go Laughridge's way in the first 250cc Pro moto, though, as he slid out on the freshly watered track with a large lead in hand, and Corder was right there to take the lead to the finish; Laughridge eventually finished fourth. Moto two was all Laughridge's, but coupled with his first-moto fourth-place finish, he fin- Pa" Albany Motorsports Albany, Oregon Results: August 25, 2001 [Round 81 WMN: I. Rhiana Stenzel (Suz); 2.
