ago, the four-time champ produced another solid ride. "I had a great start, despite not hitting the first corner in a good position," Smets said. "By the third corner I was behind Stefan, and I knew I had to beat him or the championship was over. Once I passed him, I could maintain my own speed, and I started having some fun - I did not use too much energy. I was worried because the track was watered very much, but when we rode on it, the track was perfect. Sometimes we ride the rough track, [but] today we had the best track. It's been a magic few weeks, with three GP wins. The championship is still possible, so I have to race as hard as I can." Third-place finisher Lindhe was happy to give his sponsors something the cheer about. The tall Swede rides for the Husqvarna factory, which is situated in the north of Italy, some 60 miles from the site of the GP. "It's a home GP for the team, and I wanted to offer them something," Lindhe said. "I had an okay start, then saw Everts struggling a little and thought maybe I could get to him. In the end, he was too far ahead. I am also happy, as I am now sure to stay fifth in the championship, which is a great position for me." eN Circuit of CastigliDne dell.lgo ClIstiglione dell.lgo Results: September 1S, 2001 (Round 13 of 14J 125cc: 1.
