Since Cornell debuted Bob MInarik's Harley-Davidson in the second race of the season, he has simply owned the class, taking five straight final rounds. and becoming the first in the class to crack the 10-second barrier. Four of those wins came against McWaters. Cornell qualified on the pole with a stunning 10.81 at 120 mph and looked to be the favorite once again with a 10.85 in the first round of eliminations against Leonard Melgren. Cornell had a bye in the semjs and ran a 10.93 but was edged out of lane choice for the final by four-thousandths of a second by McWaters, who got by the Orient Express Yamaha of Scott Pitas. McWaters took the holeshot on rus Cycle Tech Harley in the final agamst Cornell and needed every bit of it, holding off Cornell's 10.85 with a 10.89. In Sportsman action, Mike Konopacki made two finals but was unable to come away with a win. In Top Gas, Konopackl, who has four wins, lost by a holeshot to Stacy Raymond. In MTC Super Comp, Konopacki was taken out by Bruce Sauer, who claimed his fourth SC win of the year. With the win, Sauer took the season championship on the Team Green lX-II powered Razor. The championship is Sauer's sixth in four different classes and the first time in AMA/Prostar history a liquidcooled bike won a heads-up class championship. Mike Coulson put a Coulson in the winner's circle for the fourth time this season. While his brother Mark has three RC Component's Super Gas wins to his credit this year, Atco was Mike's day in the sun. He beat Karl Kreangel in the final. Rob Schenz took the win in Dynatek Pro E.T. action, turning back Jerry May in the final, and Njgel Ogle wheeled his '80 GSXR to the Street E.T. win over the '99 Kawasaki of Ronnie Reece.
