.•" The KLX 11 0 fills a big gap in Kawasaki's off-road lineup, which didn't have an entry-level four-stroke available at all. The KLX 11 0 is powered by a user-friendly 111cc aircooled, two-valve, four-stroke engine, which features a semi-automatic three-speed transmission with a centrifugal clutch. An added feature for the entry-level rider is the screwoperated throttle limiter, designed to allow parents to limit power output for new riders. The ex:haust features a U.S. Forestry Service-approved spark arrestor, and plenty of heat shielding, to prevent burns. The chassis is a high-tensile steel backbone frame similar to the frames on the KX motocross bikes. It rides on a 14-inch front tire and a 12-inch rear, just like the KX bikes. Styling is taken directly from the KX65 motocross bike, giving the KLX110 a fresh, race-inspired appearance. 20 SEPTEMBER 26, 2001 • cue Ust Price ........ $1699 11 Icc Displacement . . . . . . . The II-R1200 appears to be a restyled ZX-11 reassigned for sport-touring duty, but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. The bike takes traits from both the ZX-ll and the IRX1200R and molds them into a powerful sport-touring package. The 1164cc, DOHC, 16-valve, inline-four motor is a direct descendent of the IRX1200R but has been modified to provide more low and midrange power. The bike has new electroplated cylinders, and new pistons similar to the ones used in the ZX-12R. Fuel delivery is handled by a bank of 40mm Keihin downdraft carburetors similar to the ones used on the IX-11 and larger in bore than the 36mm units on the IRX 1200R. In addition, Kawasaki has added dual fuel pumps to provide more flow to the carbs. The chassis is an aluminum perimeter-style frame that features thicker frame rails for added rigidity. It also features a strong steel subframe to accommodate aftermarket saddlebags. Rake and steering offset has been altered to provide morenimble handling. Suspension up front is handled by a 43mm cartridge-style fork with provisions for preload adjustment, and out back is a remote-reservoir shock with preload adjustment mated to a new, lighter swingarm. Braking is handled up front by twin-piston calipers squeezing 320mm discs, and a 250mm disc out back. Wheels are a hollow-spoke design similar to the wheels on the IRX1200R and wear an 180/55IR17 tire on the rear and a 120/701R 17 on the front. In an effort to make the bike comfortable for all-day touring, the ergonomics have been fine-tuned. The handlebars have been moved back and the footpegs forward and down, in comparison to the IX-Ii. ~ fJ!]fJOi/JtfJ Z?Z{of} f} lJt.tiJ~rzo Ust Price $ 10,499 Displacement . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .11 64cc Engine Type '" .Uquid-cooled, 16·valve, DOHC. in-line four Bore x Stroke 79 x 59.4mm Compression Ratio 10.5: 1 Carburetion (4) 40mm Keihin Ignition ...Electronic with digital advance Transmission .six-speed Starting System Electric 6.1 gal.
