Lamb rounded out the top five. I:I1II Budds Creek MX hrtl Budds Creek, ~ry"nd Results: September S, 2001 sixth. Smith wasted little time moving to the front, overtaking Gibson before the end of the first lap. "I spun off the gate horrible and came into the first corner about midpack, but I just held it on really long on the first downhill and ended up coming out in second," Smith said. "Then, coming up the first hill, I ended up snaking by Gibson. My mechanic, Steve, said to be aggressive, and that's exactly what I did." Trying not to let Smith get away, Stiles sliced under Gibson on the next lap to take over the runner-up position. Taggart made a costly mistake and went down, dropping out of the top 10 and allowing Schueler and Wallace to move into fourth and fifth, respectively. By the final lap, Smith had established a comfortable lead over Stiles, who rode alone in second. Gibson was solid in third, while Schueler and Wallace battled for fourth. Smith crossed the finish line for his second moto-win of the day, followed by Stiles. Gibson finished third, followed by Wallace in fourth. Schueler was a consistent fifth. 2S0cc PRO Stiles shot into the lead at the beginning of moto one and quickly established a sizeable lead over Day. Smith was third, chased by Veracka, Crine and Schueler. With Stiles solidly out in front, Day and Smith went at it for second, while Crine moved past Veracka for fourth. With just a few laps to go, Day finally gave in to the relentless attack of Smith and went outside on a flat, gO-degree turn, opening the door for both Smith and Crine to pass on the inside. Smith mounted a late-moto charge in an attempt to catch the fleeing Stiles, but simply ran out of time in the relatively short, seven-lap moto. "The track is really one-lined today, and I got stuck behind Aaron Day," Smith said. "It took me forever to get around him. By the time I caught Clark, it was right near the finish." Stiles took the moto win, followed closely by Smith. Crine was third, followed by Day, who held on for fourth. Veracka finished fifth. In the second moto, Stiles and Wallace blasted through the first tum side-by-side, with Stiles moving aggressively into the lead at the bottom of the first downhill. Summey was third, with Crine, Smith and Neese in hot pursuit. Once again, Stiles began to distance himself from the pack as Summey sliced under . Wallace for second, dropping the Cannondale pilot into the clutches of the hard-charging Crine. On the very next lap, Crine shot past' Wallace and solidly into third. Stiles took his second moto-win of the day, followed closely by Summey and Crine. Wallace held on for fourth, just in front of Smith, who finished fifth. 12Scc PRO Day took the first-moto holeshot, followed by Planet Honda's Matt Maximoff and Gibson, who switched back to his usual ride - a Cernic's-backed Suzuki - for the 125cc class. After just a few laps, Gibson charged past Maximoff for second and began to close the gap on Day. A few moments later, the hard-charging Veracka also motored past Maximoff, dropping the Honda pilot to fourth while Crine made an inside move on Neese at the bottom of the famous Henry Hill to take over fifth. As the laps began to wind down, an intense three-way battle developed for the lead between Day, Gibson and Veracka. Crine ducked under Maximoff to take over fourth, followed by a steady Neese in sixth. With just over a lap to go, Gibson and Veracka both charged past Day, dropping the Yamaha rider to third. Gibson blitzed the checkers for the moto win, shadowed by Veracka in second. Day was third, followed by Crine in fourth. Maximoff was fifth. Veracka wasted no effort in the second moto and shot immediately into the lead. Fredericktown Yamaha's Jason Conlon was second, followed by Neese, Crine and Yamaha rider Paul Lamb. Not wanting Veracka to get away, Neese moved by Conlon before the completion of the lap. With Veracka and Neese battling out front for the next several laps, Conlon fell cucle 50 (4-6): 1.
