·We just said, 'There are still 18 hours left," Cunningham said. ·We knew a lot was going to happen, so we just kept it in control and had fun." As it had for the Hengeveld squad, the tactic worked, and the group not onl¥ moved up to first in class but secured second overall on a Yamaha WR250Fl Completing the same number of laps - 63 - were Larry Roeseler, Tom Webb, Robb Mesecher, Paul Thede, Keith O'Neal and Paul Krause, who teamed up on a KTM 300, the topfinishing two-stroke. Things were decidedly less smooth for this group, who had to borrow a carburetor when their bike began sputtering anywhere but in the midrange. The swap helped, but then Thede experienced a crash-filled night session, ripping off the rear fender, the subsequent lack of which allowed dust into the airbox and necessitated filter changes after almost every lap. Not only that, but the team reportedly went through multiple exhaust pipes, and when the bike ran out of fuel near the finish, Roeseler had to push it through the final few turns. Despite all this, the team scored third overall. CN IMS Pra SerieslDirt Bike 24 Hours of &len Helen San Bemenlino, CaJifomio Results: SeptlllOber B-9, 2001 0/A: 1.
