TOYOTA a little bit, but then I just kind of stepped it up a little bit on the brakes both into one and into seven," Barnes said. "He was a little bit stronger into seven, but if I got a good drive out of five, then he really didn't have a chance of outbraking me into seven." Most important was tire conservation, which Barnes did well, giving him strong drives all race long. "Barney just rode a flawless race," Acree said. "He did everything right. He was controlling the pace really well. He was really, really strong driving out on the front straightaway; he was stronger than I was. I could catch back up to him and there was a couple of places I was stronger. I was trying to figure out the good spots. When I'd get a clean run down the back straightaway, if I'd get through four good, get a clean run down the back straightaway, I could run up on him and get beside, so I had a line in the braking area, and that was my plan for the last lap since it was going back and forth. And I missed a shift going back there. I made a mistake, and as soon as I missed it, I said, 'It's his, I can't catch him.' I just did everything I could, made the mistake, Barney rode the perfect race and he beat me to the line." Acree's consolation was a vise-like grip on the championship lead. With one race to go, he leads Shogun Motorsports' Paul Harrell, fourth today after an early challenge, by 21 points, 99-78. Harrell had run a close third before dropping back from the lead duo on the 12th lap. Parriott had started badly and was closing, and by the 15th lap he was on Harrell. Two more laps and Parriott was into third, tight on the leaders and wishing he'd gotten a better start. "I think I just overrevved it a few gears," Parriott said of his start. "By the time I got into fifth gear, that was what gear I was planning on going in there [turn one] in, it looked like the fourth and fifth rows came through. They said I was 10th on the way by on the first lap, and I probably passed three or four guys that lap. It wasn't real good. "I knew Lee [Acree] and Barney would kind of slow each other up so I kind of went with that and I got some tows off, first of all Ty Howard and then Paul [Harrell], and before I even got by Paul, we were up with them. It made it an interesting race." Knowing that Acree is in the championship lead, Parriott didn't press the issue, especially in light of last year's race at PIR. "I almost went underneath Lee in [turn] seven on the last lap, but seeing as how we ended up last year in the Sportbike race, I didn't want to push," Parriott said. "I took him out v~" V AMA I Che!)!
