The administration is seeking comments on 10 questions regarding management of this vast area of public land, as large as the state of Wyoming. Officials want the public's opinion on such issues as what activities should be allowed on the land, whether it should be proposed for very strict Wilderness rules that would ban virtually all recreation, anll how the U.S. Forest Service can effectively work with groups that have competing views on managing the land. This is part of Bush's reconsideration of Clinton's Roadless Initiative, the plan the AMA dubbed 'Wilderness Lite' because of its potential to impose the strict rules of Wilderness designation without public debate. After intense efforts by the AMA and other groups last year, the final version of that plan recognized motorized recreation as a legitimate use of the land. However, the Bush administration pledged to seek more public comments on how government should manage the land. Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations, says it's critical for off-highway motorcyclists, ATV riders and anyone else interested in outdoor !1GfJ0[fx DUDf) @CfJf?DfJDD@ODCfJ@D @GfJ(1 5J (1 [):{CfJ \5!lCfJ0CfJ[fxD In what may have been the worst kept secret in motorcycle racing, Kawasaki has announced its 250 and I 25cc lineup for the 2002 EA Sports Supercross Series and AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships for its Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki and Team Kawasaki/Pro Circuit/SplitFire motocross racing teams - and those teams don't include Ricky Carmichael, the current Supercross and 250cc National Champion who will become a member of Team Honda in 2002. Kawasaki's team, meanwhile, will be led by current Honda factory rider Ezra Lusk, as the Georgian joins the returning Stephane Roncada on the team's 1O<25Os. Headlining the 125cc effort is risIng-star James Stewart, who will make his Pro debut in 2002. Carmichael is headed to Honda_ According to Stjemstrom, "Parting company with Ricky after such a lengthy relationship is like saying good-bye to a close family member, and in fact that pretty much sums up the way we've worked together over the last 14 years. He and his parents have been regular fIXtures at Kawasaki racing activities for a long time. But, as in all professional racing endeavors, change is part of the landscape and we only wish him well. "Kawasaki has played a significant role in Ricky's championship process. We've just successfully defended our 25O<:c AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championship, and we accomplished what we set out to accomplish - sweeping both the Supercross and Motocross championships. "Ricky is a unique young man who will be missed both professionally, and personally by the many he worked with at Kawasaki through the years, and his name will be proudly recognized by Kawasaki racing fans alongside those of other motocross champions who went before him, such as Jeff Ward, Jeff Emig, Mike Kiedrowski, Mike LaRocco, Jim Weinert, and Brad Lackey," concluded Stjemstrom. cross-country series now will end with the October 26-28 ISDT Reunion Ride in Park Hills, Missouri.
