Zach Devaul finished sixth overall In the 250 Open Expert class at the Suzuki Amateur Nationals at the Broome·Tioga Sports Center on August 24th and 25th. Boron piloted his KTM to the front of the pack in the second 250cc Open Expert moto and rounded the switchback first turn with a bike and a half advantage. In tow were Carroll, Boyesen, Ober and Veracka. Almost an instant replay of the start of the first moto just a slightly different running order. Carroll, with his American flag jersey waving in the wind, had the lead by the Pro finish line on lap two. Boyesen had made his way up to second, Boron dropped to third and Ober and Veracka were hanging it out in fourth and fifth. Boyesen was closing in on the patriotic Carroll and it seemed that a battle for the lead was inevitable. Boyesen narrowed Carroll's lead to three seconds with a lap to go but fell off the pace assuring Carroll the moto win and the overall. Rounding out the top five at the checkered flag were Boyesen, Boron, Veracka and Ober. Carroll's perfect 1-1 rides gave him the top of the 250cc Open Expert podium, while Boyesen's consistent 2-2 rides got him the runnerup spot, and Boron's 4-3 score was good enough for the last tier of the 250cc Open Expert class podium. Carroll managed to get his booming YZF thumper to the front of the pack once again in the Over 30 Open Expert class first moto, with Boyesen, Stephen Desiderio, Robert Hayes and Steven Burdette in tow. The moto was pretty uneventful as the top five spread out very quickly and went to the finish unchanged. Carroll got himself another win, but Boyesen was going to give Carroll a run for his money in the second moto. In the second Over 30 Open Expert moto, Carroll, once again, put his YZF in the point position right out of the first turn. Trailing were Burdette, Boyesen, Marc Tiesler and Hayes. Half way in to the first lap, Carroll was still leading, but Boyesen was charging and had worked his way into second, dropping Burdette to third. Hayes moved up to fourth and Tiesler was relegated to fifth. Jesse Kuzbyt eamed second overall in the 65cc 7-9 class with his 3-2 rides at the Suzuki Amateur Nationals at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center held two days prior to round 11 of the AMA Chevy Trucks U. S. Motocross Nationals. Boyesen closed the gap on Carroll by the start of lap two and the battle for the lead was underway. Third and fourth were unchanged, but Tiesler was relegated to sixth by Scott Phelps. Shortly after the top five came off the front section, Carroll got his thumper stuck in a rut, which allowed Boyesen to inherit the lead. Carroll dropped to second. Boyesen quickly put a little distance between himself and Carroll by lap three. Boyesen's lead was only about two and a half seconds by lap four, so the second moto win and the overall were still up for grabs. The leaders were, once again, well spread out by the last lap and remained the same to the checkered flag. The moto went in the record books as Boyesen, Carroll, Burdette, Phelps and Hayes. Boyesen's 2-1 earned him the Over 30 Open Expert class overall. Carroll's 1-2 rides were good for second overall and Burdette rounded out the podium carding a 5-3 score. Kyle Gillispie nailed the holeshot in the first 65cc (7-9) class moto. Trailing were John Bankosh, Seth Rarick and Ray Leybovich. When the leaders exited the front Supercross section, the top five running order was Jesse Kuzbyt, Leybovich, Dylan Brojkovich, Zachariah Mauro and Bankosh. The top two were unchanged at the start of lap two with Mauro moving up to third, Brojkovich dropped to fourth and Jonathan Daniels was fifth. The huge ruts that had developed in the racecourse were causing havoc for these young mini pilots as their footpegs were getting caught in the ruts, putting some riders on the ground. Leybovich emerged from the front section on lap two with the lead. Mauro was relegated to second, Kuzbyt and Brojkovich dropped to third and fourth and Daniels was still fifth. Mauro managed to get back around Leybovich for the lead on lap Ray Leybrojkovich rode to third overall In the 65cc 7-9 class at the Suzuki Amateur Nationals. Patriotic Brian Carroll, the 2001 fourstroke Loretta Lynn's Amateur National Champion, leads BoyesenlTwln AIr's Dag Boyesen In the first 250 Open Expert moto at the Suzuki Amateur National at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center. three, dropping Leybovich back to second. Third through fifth were unchanged. Mauro pulled away and got the first moto win, with Leybovich, Kuzbyt, Brojkovich and Alec Eccleston trailing. Mauro rounded the first turn of the second moto with the lead, followed by Kuzbyt, Corey Mowery and Leybovich. Mauro began to pull away by lap two and the top three were still the same with Leybovich making his way to fourth, dropping Mowery to fifth. The top five spread out pretty quickly and remained unchanged all the way to the checkered flag. Mauro earned first overall with his perfect 11 score while Kuzbyt's 3-2 rides got him second overall and Leybovich's 2-4 tally earned him third overall. eN Sepkovic (Hon); 3. Tim Gillispie (Hon); 4.
