Willie McCoy (1) nailed down the Harley-Davidson Sportster Perfonnance Series main event, beating championship contenders Paul Morgan III (83) and Bryan Smith 184X) to the line. Morgan is just six points adrift of series leader Smith with one round left. "I ran down the group from a pretty good ways back, but once I got to the tail end of that and there wasn't any place to go," said the Competition Accessories/Joe Rocket/Donohue Harley-Davidson-backed Pegram. "I just sat back there and had a little fun with Willie. The bike didn't seem to want to accelerate, but they've been working ,on it, and I think we're ready for tomorrow." HARLEY·DAVIDSON SPORTSTER PERFORMANCE The first main event of the day was the 12-lap, Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance National. Title contender Paul Morgan III led the first lap on his Moroney's Harley-Davidson/Bucksponsored Sportster, the it was the defending series Champion Willie McCoy's turn. McCoy had the DPC Racing/Kegel's Harley-Davidson mount up front for two laps before giving way to current points leader, Bryan Smith. Smith's lead was short, as Morgan stormed back to the front. The Jim Wagner/Widman Harley-Davidson sponsored Smith would lead one more lap before giving way to McCoy. Morgan had the lead on lap nine, but McCoy controlled the final three laps over Smith and Morgan. Morgan was able to grab second on the last lap and gain three points on Smith. With one race to go, Smith holds a narrow six-point advantage. Jim Wagner/Widman HarleyDavidson's Brian Thomas was a solid fourth.-After a race-long battle over fifth, Mitchell's Modesto Harley-Davidson/JDW Masonry's Nate Wait topped DPC Racing/Departure Bike Works' John Nickens III. It was Nickens' first venture into the Sportster wars. Wiseco/Landrum Racing's Jeff Landrum was seventh over the Tilley Harley-Davidson of Timmy Mitchell. Frieze Harley-Davidson/ Airhawk's Victor McAnally and 1stlegal.com's Mark Witham rounded out the top 10. SUPERTRAPP SUPERTRACKER The last race of the day was the SuperTrapp SuperTracker National. After overcoming a slow start, Corbin Racing/Dave Burks Motorsports' Kenny Coolbeth ran away and hid from the field. It was Coolbeth's third win of the year. "That thing was running awesome," said Coolbeth. "They can't draft that thing, it's just so fast down the straightaway." Lancaster Harley-Davidson teammates Mike Hacker and Bryan Bigelow were embroiled in a tight race with KK Supply/F&S HarleyDavidson-Suzuki's Willie McCoy and Team Powell/Yoshimura Suzuki's J.R.
